Neven's POV
It is sad knowing the life she will have to live now. Everything she knew she is now going to have to change. I hate that she had to move here and inherit this curse. I am happy that for once we may have someone nice and not annoying. As for the rest of us, well we still need our last member.
Bring!
My thought process was broken by the sound of the lunch bell. Time to go and see Tiffany Marie.
As I walked down to the cafe I take into mind all the people around me. Anyone of them could be the one that finishes the star.
It could be the boy walking alone near the lockers, his clothing being goth and his built is skinny. Or the blonde that everyone calls fat because she is not a size 2. Or even the short and loud girl that is not scared to show that she may be different but she has her own perfections. Or the boy who streaks his blonde hair with blue, wait he is new too. As I am thinking all of this I never notice that Tiffany Marie is standing right in front of me.
"Hello, Neven?" She says waving a hand in my face.
"What? Oh, hi, Tiffany Marie. Ready to get lunch?" I say as I smile at her. Suddenly someone bumps into her. She stumbles a bit and looks up.
"Oh sorry. I'm so sorry." The new guy says to Tiffany Marie. When he looks up he seems to like what he is seeing. "I'm new, I was just looking at my schedule."
"I'm new too. I just got here today." She says back with a smile, oblivious to the fact that he was smitten with her.
"Cool, same. I have lunch right now." He says.
"Yeah, so do we. Want to eat with us?" She asks, I am guessing she is trying to be nice But by her body language she wants him to. She was nervously holding her arm and she was smiling. I put my arm around her shoulder, as if I am claiming her. I'm not jealous but she can't get hurt and neither can he. He looks at me oddly. It is not my fault that I know she can't have friends outside of us, they will get hurt.
"No, that's okay. Anyways it looks like I would be the third wheel." He states while trying not to look so awkward. He must have thought I was her boyfriend or something.
"No. I want you too. Come on you probably have no friends yet." She is really trying to get to him to sit with us. I thought I might as well just give her a few hours of happiness before I tell her later tonight.
"Man, you should come. You are new and you seem cool have lunch with us. You would not be a third wheel Tiffany Marie and I are not dating. And all my other friends will be there also." I try to sound truthful, and try to get him to come.
"Yeah, even Neven thinks so." She takes my arm off from her shoulders. She grabs his hand in a bold move, and pulls him into the cafe. I follow them.
I look him over and see he is the normal American boy. He has normal length hair the color of the sun and some streaks of blue. He has deep blue eyes and normal clothing. He seems shy, but happy to be with Tiffany Marie. After we get our lunch, we sat at my usual table in the corner.
"Can I still come over and help you unpack after school?" I asked. Her eyes go wide and she goes into her bag taking out her phone. She texts someone and looks up to me.
"Sorry, I had to text my father. I never asked him if you could come over." She smiled.
"That's okay." I smile also. I look around the cafe and see that Val and Scarlett are here. I wave them over. Val looks pissed that 2 new people are here, and she is probably more pissed that there is someone here that was not marked. Scarlett is just her, she was the last one to be marked out of us until Tiffany Marie came along. She was marked at the beginning of this year and Val and I were marked last year about mid-term. As Val and Scarlett sit I look back over to Tiffany Marie's conversation she seems content.
"Hey, Scarlett. Hey, Val." I say trying to sound innocent.
"Don't 'Hey, Val' me. What are they doing here? Who is he?" She pursed her lips. Oh, no she's mad.
"Well Tiffany Marie is here for obvious reasons and he is here to make new friends, he is also a new student." I try calming her down. That is when the boy speaks up.
"Sorry, I can leave. I don't seem wanted." I can see while he says this he feels awkward. He picks up his bag and starts to leave.
"No, don't go. I want you here and I want to be your friend. If you leave I'm going too. I would not want to sit at a table with an unfriendly person anyways." Tiffany Marie says with the most guts I have ever seen. No one ever went that far to Val's face, ever. She gets up and walks away with him. Whatever element has taken her is strong, this should be fun.
"I invited her to sit with us, and I invited him too. If you are going to make them miserable because you are then I don't want to sit here either. It is not their fault about what happened to you and it is not mine and Scarlett's either. You have to stop blaming the world for what your soul did. I am going to sit with them." I get up and walk towards the table they sat at, feeling a presence that I was probably Scarlett. We sit down.
"Hi, I'm Scarlett, but you can call me Scar." She smiles. I was surprised she had said something at all, she is usually so shy. I was even more surprised that she gave her nickname to people she does not know.
"I'm Tiffany Marie, but you can call me Tiffie that is what my friends called me at my old school I was there for about 3 months." Tiffany Marie, or Tiffie now, introduces.
"I'm Odysseus, and people just call me by my name." The boy's name sounds familiar. Tiffie gasps, obviously knowing what he meant.
"OMG really?" She exclaims "At least I am not the only one now."
"What do you mean but that?" He asks confused. His eyebrows were furrowed.
"My last name is Quinque." She smiles, not knowing she is still alone.
"Really, that is so cool." He smiles back, "At least I am not that only one anymore."
"We have each other." She says dramatically and hugs him.
"Yes." He says dramatically, hugging her back. If he had a chance they could be a cute couple, or a really cute friendship. Sadly he doesn't, neither does she.
"I'm confused." I finally admit. "What does Odysseus mean and what does Quinque mean?"
"Quinque is the Latin word for 5, and Odysseus is the main character in the book 'Odyssey' you know the story of the Greek king?" Tiffie explains.
"Oh. So you both have foreign parts in your name." I try.
"Yeah, form old mythology. My last name is in a lot mythological stories. It is said that one day one of our children will have 5 somethings that could help save the world." She shrugs it off like it is something she hears all the time, and is unimportant.
"Do you believe it?" I ask carefully.
"Nope. Just some old tales." She shrugs it off yet again. "So why did your parents name you Odysseus?" She says as she turns to Odysseus.
"Um, they didn't." He states awkwardly. He was grabbing his elbow. He looked like he was going to puke.
"Oh, what happened?" Tiffie asks softly. Her phone vibrates but she ignores it.
"My parents were teens and they were stupid and drunk a few days after I was born, they decided to go boating with me. I was a newborn and they were drunk. They crashed and the boat sunk. I was saved because I got stuck on a cushion with my car seat. I almost died. I was infected with radiation -luckily not anymore though- and that is why my hair has some blue in it. My adoptive parents named me Odysseus because of the water and my hair." He says. He looks sad as if he wants to know what his real parents were like.
"Oh, I'm sorry man." I try to comfort him.
"No, I never knew my parents. They might not have been good people. I am really lucky that I have my adoptive parents." I knew he meant it.
"So, my dad say a few friends can come over and stay for dinner." Tiffie says looking at her phone.
"Oh, cool." I say
"Do you guys want to come too" She says asking Scar and Odysseus.
"Yeah" They say at the same time. Scar blushes. Scar really is cute when she blushes.
"Okay cool!" Tiffie exclaims. This was going to make it harder for me to tell her. I wonder how I am going to tell her that she is now never going to have a normal life.
"Can I sit here?" We hear a voice from behind us. I turn around and Val is standing there. I was honestly surprised. She sounded so innocent.
"Yes, as long as you learn how to be a human and not a barbie." Tiffie explains.
"I'm sorry." She defends looking like a little 4 year old that ruined the garden.
"I'm Tiffie, and this is Odysseus. You are?" She extends her small hand to Val.
"I'm Valerie, but you can call me Val." She states to Odysseus and Tiffie, shaking her hand. They all smiled at each other.
"So we were just discussing how we were all going over to my house to 'unpack' my stuff. Want to come?" Tiffie said air quoting 'unpack'. It is really nice she invited Val after what she said to them.
The rest of the day went by pretty fast. I had calculus and roman mythology. They went by fast. Now it was time to meet with Tiffie and the gang.
