I remember that day as if it were any other. The day that I died. It was only a year ago. I was sixteen.
I had gotten into a fight with my best friend. It was a stupid fight. Nothing was worth the consequences it created. I remember running away from him. I had stopped to see if he was following me. I didn't see the car. It was all a blur. I heard a thud and a sharp pain. If only we had never fought. And if only that driver hadn't been on his phone. If only I hadn't been so stupid.
When I woke up, I saw everything that happened after that. Riley held me in his arms as tears stained his beautiful face. Why did I have to get jealous over him? I knew why. Its because I loved him.
I stared down at my body that he held so tenderly. I knew I was dead. I knew that I would never breathe again. I didn't want to accept it.
Even as I thought this, a song drifted past my ears. I couldn't understand it. Inside my chest, my heart clenched. As if it still tried to hold on to life. As if it could still beat.
I couldn't resist the soft melody that lured me. It tickled my ears. I followed it, in the end. It showed me the way to my new "life." A portal of some kind opened up before me and beckoned me to step within its boundaries. I stepped into it. It led me a place where time did not exist. I could feel it in the deepest part of me. This was where all souls went. I approached the tall ,silver gates that stood before me. A figure approached me from the shadows.
It was a female."What is your name?"
I hesitated before replying. "I-its Harlow. Harlow Irvin."
"Well then, Harlow. Welcome to the Land of Souls."
