She always came to school, no matter how sick or tired she was. She didn't want to be home. She hated her home. I would always ask why, she would always shrug and I would let the question go. The next day she came to school with bruises on her arm and neck. We were at the lake behind the school, our favorite place to be. As I held her in my arms, she didn't even cry. I told her it was okay to cry. She told me she felt nothing. It confused me because I've never felt "nothing" before. I told her a story when I was younger and how my mother past away. We laid on the grass, shoulder to shoulder, as we looked up at the sky as we spoke. We stayed there till dark because she didn't want to go home. We laughed and joked around about the little things. This was the moment I truly appreciated her.
