"Dean?"
"Not now, Cas."
"But D-"
"I said not now!"
The boy in the angel costume stared down the hallway he was being pulled down. He twisted his wrist in hopes of loosening Dean's grip, but he only held him tighter. "Really, Dean. I'm fine, it's okay", said the angel boy. He knew how easily Dean got worked up and didn't want him to worry.
"No, it's not okay, Cas! They made fun of you. No one makes fun of my best friend." Just earlier that day, some of the other boys in Castiel's class teased him because of his Halloween costume. While all of the other boys wore monster or superhero costumes (including Dean in his Batman outfit), Cas wore an angel costume, which consisted of a halo and a long gown that dragged behind him as he walked down the hallway. "I'm not letting them get away with that!"
The two young boys marched down the hallway, Dean still huffing and puffing as Cas followed warily behind him, until they reached a colorfully decorated door. It was covered in construction-paper pumpkins and witches, handmade by the students of Mrs. Anna's first grade class. Dean let go of the angel boy's wrist and entered the room, scanning over his classmates in search for the boy who had teased his friend. After a moment of searching, he spied Benny across the room, playing a board game. He marched to the corner where Benny was playing and kicked over the game pieces. The pudgy boy looked up at him, a bitter expression on his face.
"Hey! What was that for?" Benny stood up from his place on the play mat, now towering over the enraged six-year-old.
"You know what you did" Dean said as he grabbed ahold of the other boy's shirt with both hands. "This is for Cas." He pulled back a clenched fist, ready to pop the bully in the nose, when Cas ran up behind him.
"Dean, no!" The boy in the angel costume grabbed Dean's fist and lowered it.
"Oh come on! He deserves it!"
"No." Castiel held on to Dean's now open hand and pulled him away, dragging him out of the classroom and into the hallway.
Once the door closed behind him, Dean let go of Cas's hand and crossed him arms and huffed loudly.
"You know better, Dean. Hitting is mean."
"So is calling you names. I can't let him do that to you!"
Several minutes had gone by; he was still worked up, and it didn't seem like he would calm down anytime soon. Tired of his ranting and raving, Castiel leaned over and pecked the boy on the cheek.
Dean froze mid-sentence.
"Really, I'm okay."
