CHAPTER SIX
the unfortunate life of chutney walkerNo other words would form in Chutney's mouth. His brothers weren't supposed to come until a couple weeks from now. He comes home from the cinema and there they are. He hadn't missed their sick smiles for even a moment. He doesn't know their intentions for coming home but he has a feeling they won't be pleasant.
Doug smiled, his eyes scanning Chutney. Duke followed in suit, allowing his eyes to judge his little brother. Chutney's face knitted up in a frown at the use of his middle name. Chutney being the only brother with a first name that doesn't start with the letter 'D', caused his brothers to call him Delano.
"I asked you not to call me that long ago. Nothing has changed." Chutney spoke calmly, not to damage any change they may have undergone.
"Yea but do we ever listen?" Duke asked
"I suppose not." Chutney walked around his brothers towards the main room, with what happened with Gage still fresh in his mind. He'd much rather still be with Gage.
Chutney took a seat on the chair adjacent to the couch. Duke and Doug sat on the couch. For a couple of minutes they sat in silence, Chutney reading a book and the twins playing games on their phone. It wasn't until their parents walked in did any conversation start.
Duke and Doug shot out of their seats to hug their mother. Her body pressed impossibly close to theirs. Chutney thought about taking this moment to run up to his room, but decided against it. Rhett and Golightly have always favored their older sons over Chutney. Only recently have they started to show any respect for their youngest.
"We've missed you boys very much. Even your brother missed you." Chutney feigned a smile at his mother's statement. Golightly shot him a look.
While Chutney's brothers and parents had a reunion, he left quietly up to his room. He still had what happened with Gage fresh on his mind. He fell backwards onto his bed with a sigh. He wondered and wondered, with endless scenarios--good and bad--about what would come of his relationship with Gage. He hoped it would be good things but now that his brothers are back for god knows how long, he had to do his best to keep Gage from Duke and Doug.
He actually has a guy that likes him for him with all his quirks included and he wouldn't let his brothers--or anyone--ruin it for him.
