We both talked for quite awhile. We shared interests, likings, and absolute favorite things. I tried cracking a joke but he just scoffed and asked why I can make such horrible jokes. I got to admit, it was pretty bad. He told me about his life, and told him about mine. We actually have a lot in common. Papyrus and I only have one friend, which is each other, and this is our first time so far away from our homes. Sounding so young, I thought his house would be near by. I was running out of topics to talk about, so I brought up the Monsters vs Humans war. Not really the best subject, but it was something to talk about.

It grew quiet. Dead quiet.

I tried to break the silence. "What's wro-"

"LETS NOT TALK ABOUT THAT...." Papyrus answered. He seemed uneasy about the subject. "MY BROTHER DOESN'T LIKE WHEN OTHERS TALK ABOUT THE WAR. HE SAID IT'S A "TOUCHY SUBJECT"."

"Oh.. Sorry. I didn't mean to upset you." I apologized. "What do you want to talk about?"

Papyrus tried to answer. "WHY DON'T WE TALK ABOUT-" He didn't finish his sentence since I cut him off. I looked up at the sky, desperately trying to find the sun. I started to panic. I was in so much trouble.

"I-I need to go! Now!" I blurted as I got up from the rock. "Sorry! I'll
come see you tomorrow ok?" I started to climb out of the tiny crevice.

He responded. "OK! I HAVE TO LEAVE TO!"

I waved at the hole even though what ever kind of monster he was, couldn't see it.

"Two miles.." I thought. "Two... Miles" I started to run. It will take at least one hour to get there by foot, even if I run. I started to get tired, I've been running for almost 20 minutes nonstop.

-------

Finally. I stand in front of the old, rickety gate that closes off the orphanage. I'm shaking in my boots. What will they say? What will they do? I wanted to turn back and leave, but I know that they would do something way worse than the punishment that they'll give me now. I try to open the gate slowly, but the the loud "SCREEEEE!" gave away my return. I made my way through the entrance, and not a single sound but the crickets filled the area.
I am greeting by a tall, dark figure standing before the steps. I felt small.

"Where have you been?!" Said the woman's voice.

"I-I'm sorry Ms.-" I was cut off.

"I don't want to hear your excuses. You are 3 hours past curfew! Come with me to my office."

"Oh no.." I went stiff. When the headmistress got mad, even the toughest of the tough in this place tremble. I followed her, mostly to my doom. We entered a elegant furnished room with large book cases. Almost everything was a pink or red velvet. The office was dimly lit by a candle that made the room seem alive. She sat down in her chair behind the desk and I sat on the couch in front of her. Even the soft cushions couldn't ease my anxiety.
She started to speak.

"I'm not getting in to details." The Headmistress said in a snooty, British voice. "Why. Were. You. Late?"

"I.. um... l-l was late because.... I was.." I tried to think of a good excuse. If anyone found out I was interacting with a monster of an unknown species, the consequences would be unimaginable, even for a kid like me.

"Spit it out child!" She hollered. I had to think quick. Something believable.

"I.. I was lost. It got dark so quickly I didn't notice and I kept losing direction." I lied.

The Headmistress removed her glasses from her long, slightly wrinkled face and set them down on the desk. "Well, though it was a mistake, a punishment still must be set." I held my breathe and tried to hold back my panicking. "You are to never to go outside the village, you must stay inside the limits unless allowed or told other wise."

"Not allowed outside the limits? This village is too small to just be held up in its limits!" I argued back. "Where would I walk to or play? It's always crowded."

"And.." I thought. "And what about the promise I made to Paps?"

She stood up and reached for her glasses, wiping them off. She headed towards the door and motioned me out as she opened it. I was half way upstairs when she started to speak.

"Well, as I recall" The Headmistress looked at me. Her cold, unloving eyes piercing my soul with hatred. "You spend most of your time cooped up in that room of yours studying or reading. And well, I'm not one for gossip, but, I've heard you are "friend less" so it won't bother you." She shut the door with a "BANG" and left me there standing in the dark near tears. It felt like the whole world was against me, no matter what I do, I claim the title as "screw up". I held back the hot tears and made my way up the remaining steps.

"They don't own me. She doesn't own me." I thought to myself. "I'm not their cattle they can push around or herd."

"I just need to figure out a way to sneak away before they notice." I started to devise a plan. I made a promise and I intend to keep it. I silently entered my room, trying not to wake the others and sat on my bed.

I would get out unnoticed. I would see Papyrus again.

I would.
