"Alessia!" I heard my mother yell.

I groaned and grabbed the nearest pillow covering my face, holding the ends of it to cover my ears with the hopes it would block out her yelling. If you told me when I was 18 that at the age of 23 after four years of college AND two years of grad school that I would end up back at my parents house, honestly, I would probably say you are right. Today though, it was my first internship at Payne & Co.

"Alessia! You get downstairs or you are gonna be late!" The yelling continued from my mother.

She was right, so I mustered up all my energy and proceeded to get ready. I hate mornings, like truly hate them. Yet, I decided a career path where I need to wake up in the morning. Go me.

I jogged down the staircase, walking into the kitchen I saw more breakfast food than normal. It wasn't just cereal, oh no no. I'm talking cereal with pancakes, waffles, bowls of fruit, bacon, and the list continues.

"You should be starting your first day at an internship everyday if it means mom makes all of this." My 17-year-old brother spoke with his mouth full.

I rolled my eyes, then proceeded to make eye contact with my mom. "Too much. It is only an internship. You didn't have to go and make food enough to feed the whole block." I sighed and grabbed a waffle. My mother looked around the counter, or home cooked buffet at this point and held her apron to her chest. "Okay, I admit, I did go just a tad overboard. Alessia, I'm just nervous. My baby is going into the real world now. I'm proud of you."

I had wrapped my arm around her waist, pulling her into a hug. "Thank you. For everything. I would eat, but I need to get going and you know I never ate a big breakfast since 6th grade. I love you." I kissed her cheek and pulled away. Ruffling my brothers hair as I passed by him, I walked to the garage and got in my car. Leaning back against the seat, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Four years of high school, four years of college, two years of grade school all led up to this. Was I ready for any of it? Probably not, considering as I went to turn on the car, it flashed,

"Key not detected."

I left my damn keys in the house. I had a feeling this would become the new pens and pencils I always forgot to bring to class.

Walking into the building, I saw a group of people around my age. I figured they were interns who were starting today as well. One girl turned toward me and flashed me a small smile.

"Are you an intern?" I nodded and smiled back at her. "Alessia. You are?" I put my hand out. She grabbed it snd shook it gently. "Krista." She said and we let each others hands go. A woman with a stern expression on her face approached our group, clearing her throat obnoxiously to quiet us down.

"Welcome to Payne & Co. The next three months here for you is that you show us your skills, your drive, your ability to put your foot forward and take control when needed. If you don't show even one of those three things I listed, you can bet your ass will be out that door in just a month. Maybe." She grinned and signaled us to follow. I looked at Krista and she leaned in to whisper in my ear, "Ten bucks she is fucking Mr. Payne." I snorted and cover my mouth to contain my laughter.

"How about twenty?"

"I like you already."

I know that may be annoying, but I would appreciate your thoughts about things and so forth. Anyway, thank you for reading chapter one. :)
