when Johnathan, Maddie's best friend, suddenly skips school for several days in a row, Maddie gets super upset at him for not telling her he'd be gone. A few days later Maddie receives a CD in the mail labeled "Experiment no. 14" and runs it on her computer, when she does a small avatar that looks like Johnathan appears and tells her he's was kidnapped and virtualized into the CD's game, thinking it's a joke, Maddie plays along and decides to play the CD's game and win to "free" Johnathan.
a few weeks of trial and error gaming later, Maddie finishes the game and the final cutscene plays as suddenly a laser shoots from her computer tracing an image
