-Marco's POV-

The ceremony was a blur of extravagance, forced politeness and drinking. I left early, disgusted with my father's displays of public affection, even on his wedding day he manages to act unholy. Not like I can talk.

I found myself walking around the docks as I watched the sunset. It was so pretty, calming and distinctly beautiful among a background of plain blue. It stood out and shone throughout all of life's many distractions, it still showed its face each and every day.

All I heard was a sharp crack and then I was dead.

-Raul's POV-

Disgusted with my family's affectionate natures, I left the ceremony as soon as I was politely able to. I proceeded to retreat to the safety of my room and pour myself some more wine, in order to calm my anger.

Although I did feel strongly about Guinevere, Marco was right; there will always be other girls out there. Like there are fish in the sea, all I have to do is find the right one.

"Hello. My name is Cato. You're Raul, the responsible, trustworthy brother."

Startled, I dropped my glass and swiftly turned towards the newcomer.

"Relax, friend. I'm just here to introduce myself before things get... complicated." The man had a thick accent of some kind, which I couldn't place as I had never been outside of Venice. He was tall, about the same height as me, but with blonde hair, which framed his face and brushed his shoulders. Piercing green eyes looked me up and down.

"What are you doing in my private quarters, friend?" I spat out at the stranger.

"Nothing much, just to tell you that your brother's dead." He shrugged off.

I felt my jaw snap open in surprise as he kept talking.

"I'm also a vampire, but we'll get to that. Right now, I need to kill you as well as your brother." He made a move towards me as I jumped back.

"What?! No! You will not kill me!" I roared, lunging towards him in order to defend myself.

Somehow, he appeared behind me and held a blade against my throat.

"Sadly, I need to do this in order to start the transition." He sliced my throat open and I fell to the ground, choking on my own blood and dying as the stranger opened a bottle of my wine.

"Vintage, like me. Fine choice." He smiled and sat down.

And, like that, I faded away into darkness.

"Waking up was something I had never anticipated." I told to the doctor, who had his hand elbow-deep in my ribcage. Wincing as he dug around my heart, he continued his many questions; How could I have woken up? Why was I still alive? How did Cato make me an immortal Vampire?

The doctor had been asking me these questions for 5 years now, and each time the answer was still the same.

The only way to make someone a Vampire is to have them drink your blood and then die with it in your system. But then, you have to drink human blood to complete the transition. If you don't drink in the next 24 hours; you die.

Rummaging around my kidneys, Dr Griffon's other hand was busy writing down the same old notes about how my heart still beat, even as it was being prodded and poked. As he did this, I reminisced as to how we were turned.
