"No! She was wearing jeans. They weren't jeggings, I could tell."
I roll my eyes holding the phone closer to my ear than I should. I was doing my science homework on my messy bed while I talked to my best friend Tasha.
"Did you just roll your eyes at me? Are you serious, Emaline?" She could tell, even on the phone, when I rolled my eyes or twirled my finger in the air."No," I lied. I could hear her earrings hit the phone as she shook her head in disbelief. "Em, come on this is serious! That girl has never worn nice jeans in.. Like," she paused and I waited. "Forever!" she finished.
I shift the phone to my other ear, positioning my shoulder so I could have two free hands. "Okay, and what does it matter if she wears nice jeans now? Is it ruining your life?"
She inhaled to say something then stopped, stumped. "Well.. No.. but," she stammered, not being able to find the words to come after."Look Tasha, I've gotta go. This science is getting intense; it's gonna take me a long periodically time." She snorted and laughed out loud at this. "Alright Queen of the Periodically Table, I'll leave you alone." She hung up before I could tell her that I was not, but I didn't care anyways.
Even during my homework, after, when I was brushing my teeth to go to bed, I was thinking of what Tasha was saying about those jeans. The girl hadn't worn such nice stuff before. And if Tasha says they were real jeans and not just jeggings, then they probably were real jeans. They didn't look like a brand from Walmart when I really looked at them.
But the jeans didn't really bother me. It was wha came to mind when I thought about them what bothered me. If that girl is changing her style from disgusting to decent, then how would she act? Would she act differently? And this still wasn't what bothered me. What bothered me is that I suddenly was asking myself this: Did the girl at the auction do the same thing, did she suddenly change and act differently?
I shook my head, to get the thought out of my mind. "It doesn't matter," I told myself. I dived into my bed and under the covers like water in a warm pool.
