((You can only shapeshift from/to a human+dragon though. This story was inspired by: http://xxxnightdovexxx.deviantart.com/art/America-X-Dragon-Reader-Dont-even-try-Pt-1-456635500 You might wanna read it first though. When dragons talk, it's in italics and quotation marks bc they talk into humans' minds in this.))
Suddenly, you smelled something. It smelled... human. Maybe you should shapeshift into a human? No, they were too close for that already. You'd just have to put your guard up, it might not be much help though, you were only five. No, you didn't have any family, you had no siblings and your parents died last year.
Hopefully, the child wouldn't have just lost their guardian or guardians. They would tell them that there was a dragon nearby... A lot of your dragon friends had been spotted lately, so they probably would believe the child and probably try to kill you.
Shivering, you drew your legs closer to your body. It was the middle of winter, so you were freezing. "Hello?" A small British male voice called out. You froze, no, not because of the cold. You just weren't used to being caught by humans, it rarely happened. Curling into a ball, you tried to make yourself as small as possible. Footsteps crunched the snow quickly. You probably shouldn't have moved just now, you just made a lot of noise, which probably just made it easier to find you. There was a small gasp. "A dragon!" He exclaimed. You cringed slightly. "Hello, dragon!" He called. Sighing, you uncurled from the tight ball you were in. You eyed the boy now in front of you. He seemed to be about six years old.
"Who are you?" He asked.
"Y/n. Who are you?" You inquired.
"Arthur," The little boy replied happily. "Will you be my dragon? I've always wanted a dragon friend!"
Arthur's question caught you by surprise. You'd never heard that before. Be his dragon? What did that even mean? Be his pet? No! You started to shake your head.
"Oh, I didn't mean as in you be my pet! I meant you could be my best friend. When others are around, you would have to be my pet so we don't get in trouble though..." Arthur explained. Well, that was definitely better than being killed. In this period of time, dragons were either killed or taken in as pets. You thought for a moment. You didn't want to be killed, and you could use a friend that you knew wouldn't just die on you without you knowing they would...
"Okay, sure." You said, still not exactly sure why you were doing this. This was so cliche for you to do. Whatever.
Arthur's face lit up. "Yay! We'll become best friends. Wait, where should you be? Should I bring you into the village or should I leave you here? I don't want you to get hurt! If I bring you into the village, no one will know you are my friend, and they might shoot you. If you stay here, someone might hurt you. Oh, I know! I could ride on your back into the village. Do you think you'd be strong enough to carry me? I'm not trying to be rude, you just seem younger than the dragons I've seen." Arthur said. "We'll see. Climb on." You replied, crouching so he could climb up. Arthur climbed onto your back. "I think I can carry you. Is it far?" You asked. "Nope! Not at all! I'll tell which to go! Let's go!" Arthur said.
Timeskip
"This is your village?" You asked. "Yup! Isn't it great?" Arthur asked. "Oi! Arthur?! What are you doing!?" A Scottish accent called. "She's my dragon!" Arthur replied. The Scotsman sighed, pinching his glabella. "I said, what are you doing. Not who is she!" He repeated. "She's my dragon. I want her to be safe, so I brought her here. Was I not supposed to do that?" Arthur sweated. "Probably not. Well, you didn't know any better. Did you even..? Nevermind, you don't about it." The redhead said. "Who is he?" You asked. "My big brother. Allistor!" Arthur exclaimed. Allistor jumped. "Arthur, you heard what she said? Yes? Oh... When did you meet your dragon?" Allister asked. Arthur jumped to the ground. "Today! Why?" Arthur buzzed. Allistor paled. "A-Arthur... That's not natural." Allistor gulped. "W-Why not?" Arthur cried. "Nevermind. Come on, let's get her a stall where the other dragons are." Allistor said, covering up his schock.
Uh-oh. You thought. Was there something with you. Was Arthur not supposed to be able to hear you? Did you have to have tons of years of experience with dragons to understand them? Or did you only hear your own dragon's thoughts? If so, did it take time to hear your dragons thoughts? Was it because you were half-human? Well, you couldn't ask, could you? They'd know you were half-human. What would happen then? Thoughts continued to whirl around in your head.((Welcome to my world.)) Oh well, you'd probably figure it out soon enough.
"Here you go, y/n!" Arthur cheered. "Thank you." You replied. "You're welcome!" Arthur said, smiling.
