I watch as the rain fell down the statue. It is of an angel crying over a grave. When I was younger and life was much less complicated I would come out here and think of stories that went along with all of these statues. This statue I always have a particular fondness for. The story I came up with was quite good for a 8 year old, of course at the time, I was much more innocent to the ways of the world.

The story starts with a young man, around the age of 10, he was a boy of high importance in the world's design. No one but the god who created him knew the reason for his importance. He chose an angel to guard him through his measly life. Of course all of the angels wanted to have this great honorable job of watching and protecting this boy. Heaven is a vast and beautiful place. Angels from every corner of this place came to hopefully get this job or to congratulate the one who did.

There was a small young angel of particular beauty who came as well. She was outcast because she believed humans to be the most beautiful and fascinating creatures. Most angels were opposed to this idea because they only looked at the dark things humans have done to one another. They of course did not realise that they were of the same nature and the way they treated her proved that. She was verbally abused and completely left to her own devices. Many would have become sullen and depressed but this angel was not broken by their petty words and glares. She did not expect to be chosen but she wanted to ask the one who did to tell her all of the humans below.

The god had noticed his favorite angel in the crowd of thousands. Many would have thought it would have been one of the strongest, smartest, or most beautiful but it was not though she was all of those, she had something none of the angels had, she had true clairvoyance to the way the world was. She could see the horrible the world has but she saw how it made some better and how every soul played some kind of part even if it did not seem like that when you look in the small lense but each person does things that affect the flow of fate. He then pointed at her and spoke. "You my dear child are to be the protector of this young man." The girl from earlier moved toward the god. Many angels were outraged because, how could this outcast be the one to protect the most important human. One angel walked to the god before the girl got there. "My lord are you so sure about this, she is an outcast for her improper ideas." The god was not angry as many would be he just smiled and shook his glorious head. "My son you do not know what you are talking about. You can not sway my decision, she will protect him." He had seen glimpses of her future from the destinies. She would be a fierce and passionate warrior. She is wise and loyal. Those blinded by others idea could not see her true self but he was a god. He was not affected by such things. She finally made her way to him. He pulled her into a hug. "You have always been my favorite angel." he whispered in her ear. He stepped away from her and sent her on her way to the boy.

As the years passed she grew alongside this boy. She had grown to love him even when he could not see her. The angels watched her progress from above. They were surprised by her skill in the way of weapons for they had always refused to teach her. She had watched others and learned on her own. Over time as she matured many of those watching lusted for her as she had become one of the most beautiful angels of them all. The boy grew into a man and became incredibly handsome as well.

He had not known it but he could constantly feel her presence and he did not know what it was until he had reached the age of twenty. He was walking in the forest behind the palace and had come across a lake hidden in the enchanting trees. He stood staring at the beauty of it all, but felt it was missing something. He leaned over to look in the water and saw a reflection of the angel looking at him. He snapped his head to look at her. For the first time since she had been watching him, he saw her. She looked at him surprised that he could finally see her. He drew his sword. "Who are you?" He was not easily distracted by beauty, even if she was the most beautiful creature he has every seen, he saw the swords and other weapons laying tight to her body. She wore a most curious clothes to him as well. She was wearing a white tunic and overcoat, that had red detailings. Her coat had a hood that would cover her face. She was wearing pants, something he had never seen a woman do. Her blonde hair cascaded down around her sharp features. Though he could not see it her wings were pulled into the markings on her back making them disappear completely. "I am not here to harm you, I have been protecting you for many years now." He was confused, she did not look any older than him, how could she had been protecting him? "I have grown up alongside you since you were 10 years old. You could not see me until now. I would never harm you for I have grown to love you, Cade." He lowered his weapon. This magnificently beautiful woman loved him and he had never known. "You love me? What is your name?" She felt scared something she had not experienced since she came to earth. "Yes, I do. I am called Zerachiel, but you can call me Zera." She lowered her head and bowed low to him. "No, if you have protected me for all this time we are equals." She laughed slightly at this. "What is funny in this?" She shook her head. "I am considered the one with a higher placement than that of you, prince." He was confused by this. "Are you a queen? It does not get any higher a position than that and if you were you would not be protecting me." She shook her head again. "No, dear prince I am an angel." He looked at her confused. "They do not exist." She laughed and then released her wings. He stood dumbfounded. "Well that would explain the beauty." She blushed deeply, she had always been invisible, even in heaven, never had she been complimented. He laughed at her blush. He felt a strong connection to her and a love for her, almost as if he had always known she was there. He reached his hand up to brush the back of it against her blush. She locked eyes with him. They leaned in and gently kissed. Many of those watching turned away to give them privacy, but one watched in outrage. That was the woman he loved. This boy stole the first kiss that was supposed to be given to him. His anger started to burn him from the inside. Their kiss only lasted a few seconds but that was all it took. They were in complete love and would stay that way forever more. That small kiss was all it took to change many minds the angels had about humans, though some were not so easily swayed.

For the next few years they courted and then married. She became queen of the small kingdom. Danger drifted not to far off. It was their two year anniversary when it finally struck. That same outraged angel came to earth and stormed into the palace while they were having dinner. He wore his hood so that she could not see his face. He threw one dagger into the king's chest. She screamed as he fell to the ground. She cradled his dead body and cried for the first time. As her tears fell, small plants and flowers grew around. A day later, she told the adviser to the king and his best friend that she appointed him king. She knew that he would be a good king just to make his best friend proud. Later that day his funeral took place, after all had left she let her wings out and released all her grief. That small action of total emotion turned her body to stone and killed her. The angels all watched this event distraught, angry and saddened. No one thought that she had really loved him that much. The angel that killed her husband watched from the gates as she turned to stone. He cried for his love, where his tears landed, though everything died.

I stood thinking about that story, I hadn't made it up. It was a dream that came to me. I no longer believe in love like that. I have been married to a man I do not love. He is not a kind man either. He is paranoid and constantly thinks I am cheating on him. He yells constantly. I moved into my own room to be away from him. My parents believe him to be a great man. My brother is the only one who truly knows. I hear someone sigh behind me. I quickly turn around. It is a man of angelic features. "Are you an angel?" He seems shocked. "You can see me, Mon Amour?" I nod my head. Relief breaks across his features. "Yes, I am an angel. I have waited so long for you to be ready to see me. I am here to love you and take you away." I smile and run to him. "I have waited for this too." I whisper in his ear. "We need to visit someone before we run and I need to write a letter." He nods his head. "Of course, Mon Amour, anything for you." We travel to my brothers house. I approach the door and knock. "Sister what are doing here? He will become angry if you are gone for too long." I smile at him. "Oh Andrew, but I'm running away and I need you to do something for me." He nods his head. "Yes, anything." I walk in his home and write two letters.

Dear Henry,

I had never once cheated on you but you scared me and around you I am afraid for my life, so I have decided to run away. I would have tried to be a good wife if you had not been so cruel and horrid to me. So, this is goodbye.

Alice

The second one actually hurt me somewhat to write.

Dear mother and father,

If you would have cared to notice like Andrew did, you would have seen that Henry is a terrible man. He was constantly yelling at me and forced himself on me many times. I can not believe you had not noticed my constant pain. I had lived in fear of the time when he would get to angry and start to physically hurt me. I have met someone who is willing to help me run away and so that is what I have decided to do. By the time Andrew gives this to you I will be long gone.

Goodbye forever,

Alice

I give the letters to Andrew and hug him. "I will try to visit every so often." I say before walking to my angel. "What is your name, I must know before we disappear?" He smiles and wraps his arm around my waist. "My name is Araqiel, Mon Amour." He lets out his wings and takes off.
