Death. It can be a scary word, that brings horror with it, or it can bring happiness and peace to those wishing not to suffer. But sometimes, once in every million years, someone is able to escape it. It may make them happy, or destroy their lives for good.

It was raining outside.I had decided to go out for a walk, and as I was making my way back home, it started to pour. Just my luck. "Shit," I mutter. "Mom will be so pissed." I was heading back home when it happened. The bright lights. The horn. The pain. A car had apparently ran straight into me. The doctors said it was a miracle I didn't die. To me that scared me. I could have died, right then and there.

I had apparently gotten a concussion and almost went into a coma. When I woke up in the hospital, my friends were all there, along with my crush, PJ. "How are you feeling, Rachel?" Sarah asked. "Like I just got hit by a car," I muttered sarcastically. James chuckled, but I could see the worry in everyone's eyes, except PJ. "I knew you would survive," he said confidently,"You are one of the toughest people I have ever met." I blushed, and looked down and smiled. James, I saw, glared at him.

"So I'm guessing you're fine now? If you need to rest we can go now," James said worried. He pushed his glasses up and I just had to take a good look at them all. I may have never seen them again. I looked at James with his light brown hair that was a little curly, and how he has hazel eyes and freckles. Sarah had long, electric blue dyed hair and shocking emerald eyes, and PJ had dark brown hair that kinda flipped up at the top and ice blue eyes, and pale skin. I looked towards the mirror at the side of my hospital bed and saw my reflection. I had a sickly pale tint to my skin, white blonde hair, and for some reason, violet eyes. I guess that makes me special, but I don't see how, at least not yet.

I look back at James. "No, it's okay. You guys can stay," I reply. Sarah smiled. "Great!" she said," I brought chocolate!" I suddenly got really hungry. I hadn't had chocolate in a long time. She handed it to me and I just started stuffing my mouth. I realized what I was doing and looked up to everyone. "Sorry, did you guys want some?" They all laughed. "No, you can have them. It seems as if you hadn't had anything to eat all day," James replied. I shrugged my shoulders and started eating again, but slower this time.

"So, how far are you on summer reading?" James asked. "I'm actually almost done. Being hit by a car gives you a lot of free time apparently," I said. PJ laughed. "I haven't even started yet. I don't know if you noticed, but, I'm not exactly the reading type," he said. We all laughed at that. "I think I'm halfway done with it," Sarah said but James had apparently finished his. "How is that even humanly possible?" PJ asked. James shrugged. He was a nerd after all, and nerds are over achievers.

Soon visiting hours were over, and I had to take some painkillers. They tasted disgusting but it did make me feel better after a couple of hours. I soon went to sleep, and when I woke up, the doctors said I was now able to go home. I thought that that was a bit weird considering that I was just hit and almost died a few days ago. As I sit in the car, I nervously start playing with my hair. Grace, my sister, looks at me concerned. "Are you feeling okay, you're twisting your hair around your fingers. That means that you're worried," she said. "Hm? Oh, I'm fine, just a little tired I guess," I said to her, trying to sound reassuring. She looked at me for a second and then went back to her phone. I noticed that she was looking at herself in the camera. She was fixing her chestnut colored hair, and trying to fix the makeup around her emerald green eyes. She was always obsessed with makeup and a bunch of makeup crap that I don't care about. She has always tried to do a 'makeup ambush' on me and make me buy dresses.

When we got home, I went straight to my room. It was just as I remember it. The walls were a purplish black with thousands of tiny white dots representing stars. There were galaxies painted everywhere and there was a telescope poking out of my window. The best part of the room was whenever you turn the lights off, hidden glow in the dark galaxies appear. It always felt like outer space, and I loved it. I quickly got out of my hospital clothes, that still had little blood on them, and changed into black sweatpants and a purple tank top.
