Fire, explosions, screams. “J!”
“Stefan take the shot!”
“Char get out of there!”
“Unloading remaining two rocket pods”
“Alpha priority update.”
“Behemoth!”
“Michael initiate Xeno protocol.”
“It’s charging its Neutrino Cannon!”
“Michael! Get out of the way!”
“I can’t Xeno is almost finished.”
“I don’t care MIchael it’s about to fire!”
“Michael it’s starting to fire!”
“Xeno initiated.....”
“Michael!”
With a start J woke up as the explosions from his nightmare became real. The feel of the throwing knife a now all too familiar feel in his hand.
"Code Five, repeat Code Five." Blared over the PA system, temporarily drowning out the alarms.
Jumping out of bed and shaking off the darkness of memories, Captain J Carver immediately grabbed his handgun and then grabbed his jacket. After many such alerts he slept in everything but his jacket and gun belt. Grabbing the comm mic and connecting to Charlette he said. "Talk to me Char."
Knowing that Char would have been awake long before now, and almost certainly been on the Access Terminal. And without a doubt had already hacked the radar scanners and had a combat assessment ready. He then started heading to the Launch Bay.
"Not good J, really not good. The data I pulled from the main base scanners show at least a full infantry battalion, and no less than thirty tanks," answered Char.
While dodging men and women running to their stations two more explosions rocked the base.
"That's bad Char, not really bad. What else is there?" After turning the corner there was Char or Charlette O'Hanlan, followed by Stefan who was a good ten inches taller than her 5' 6" frame. With her bright red hair and green eyes under normal circumstances a lot of men and some women would stop to look at her. After falling in beside him to his left Char said.
"There is at least one carrier flanked by ten interceptor jets. It's a Z."
"Cursed Wargs," Muttered Stefan or Stefanopolous Zanis from his right. "How'd they find out about the operation?" Tall and lanky Stefan fit the tall and dark stereotype to a T with his olive skin and dark brown hair.
"I don't know Stefan, the attack its self was classified. What I do know is that we'll make them regret attacking this base. Where's Gunnar and Niki," asked J as they passed the now empty mess hall.
"They were in Maintenance so they will already be there," answered Char. Hitting a button on the com J contacted Zeke.
"Hey Zeke. We need the Orion outfit on the Guardians immediately... Yeah the Code Six is coming, Stefan and Char are with me... Good, have them on standby in case we need them... Yeah, five minutes at the most... Thanks." The traffic was almost gone in the hallways since now most people were at their battle stations. What traffic remained made sure to clear the way for the three people in the black pants, shirts, and jackets with the silver emblem of the Guardian Squad.
The Sword and Shield on their sleeves marked them as one of five elite squads permitted to use the Guardians. The technical definition of the Guardians were Automated Humanoid Mobile Strike Systems. Only the best out of all of the military were chosen to even attempt the training for the Guardian Squads. Even then only one in fifty passed the basic training. Then only one in twenty were given the crest. There were more differences between the Squads and the main military than the black of the Squads and the green and tan of the Army or the blue of the Navy. It was skill, determination, loyalty. And of course the Guardians.
