Okay so this is a story about an orphan who figures out she's not. And through her new life, she finds herself doing the unimaginable, trusting men. She finds herself surrounded. Will she take this trust willingly, or will she fight with everything she's got to avoid it? Only time will tell!
You know in fairy tales, those last few lines when the female's inability to marry the prince is resolved because it turns out her parents are actually rich? Have you ever imagined how wonderful that would be? I would bet you have. But trust me. It SUCKS.
"You can't be serious." I told the lady dressed in black that sat across the table from me. I believe her name was Carla. "I'm sorry honey, but I am completely serious. You should be happy; it's like a new beginning for you." She said with a small smile. I gave her my best droll stare. I turned to look at Melanie who was still sitting next to me. Her eyes now filled with more confusion than she had had only an hour ago.
****FLASHBACK****
"WHAT!?" I screamed at the cop in front of me. I didn't know what her name was but it didn't matter, she was wrong.
"I'm sorry. But a crime of this degree can result in two years of prison." She told me again. This couldn't be right. She was wrong. I hadn't done anything bad, I swear to god! This was the moment Melanie came bursting into the interrogation room.
"What the hell is going on?" She screamed. I gave a small laugh. Oh Melanie, always a dramatic one. Melanie strutted over to the seat next to me and sat down giving the cop her best "don't fuck with me" look.
"As I was telling Ms. Blue, it appears that you she has been attending Middleburry Public school by fraudulent means for the past eleven years of her life. That is a serious crime, which because she is only a minor, can result in up to two years in prison for her." She repeated the words. How had I been fraudulently going to school for eleven years? I didn't know.
"You have got to be shitting me." Melanie said in confusion. For the next few minutes we both sat in silence thinking about how this could happen. Suddenly she looked at me. A look of realization crossed her face but she said nothing. She looked back to the cop.
"Are you her mother?" The police woman asked Melanie. We both laughed. Her? My mother?
"How old do you think I am?" the twenty four year old asked her. "I'm her temporary provider." She told the lady. Yes, I am an orphan. Melanie was too. That was how we met. When she was able to move out of our foster home, she applied to become a temporary provider for me, which basically makes her like my foster mother, but she's not old enough to do that.
"I see." She said. Another officer popped his head in.
"Carla, I think I need you to come check something out." He said. They both left the room leaving me and Mel in the room.
"What is it?" I asked her, knowing she had realized what part was fraudulent.
"Your birth certificate." She said simply. It took me a minute before I realized what she was talking about. MY BIRTH CERTIFICATE. I had known that when I was brought to the foster home when I was nine, the adoption agency had told them that I had no birth certificate, but for legal purposes they had manufactured one with false information. I guess that was more illegal than I thought it had been.
"What have they done to you?" Melanie asked softly. She knew we were in some deep shit.
"They took my blood, and fingerprints to put into Atheis." I said softly. I was going to go to jail. I was a seventeen year old orphan, and I was about to go to jail.
****END OF FLASHBACK****
"What do you mean you found my parents? I didn't know I was looking for them?" I said shocked, and angry. I had always assumed that they were dead.
"yes. We have called them and we have come to the settlement that if you go and live with them until you are at least eighteen, then we will not press charges on either of you." I looked at Mel, but she didn't look back at me. She just stared in shock at Carla.
And it was at this moment that changed everything. I no longer was an orphan. I had parents, and they had given me up. I wasn't Carson Blue anymore. I was a Lake. And through this disaster, I found myself doing something I had sworn on my ninth birthday I would never do again. I found myself relying on not one guy, but five.
Its short but comment if you like it! More to come... Melanies not really a big part of it, but she will play a minor role.
