Chapter 1: The surprise of the weekend... er, century.
On August 17, 1991, I woke up late. I rolled over in bed and kicked my friend Kelsey. She had come over yesterday and ended up sticking around. We had alot of fun, but all she could talk about is her rocky relationship with her boyfriend. Who is an idiot by the way. All the sudden, my grin dimmed. Why was i not smelling pancakes cooking? Mom makes blueberry and chocolate pancakes when kelsey comes over.
I elbow Kelsey again, harder. "What the heck Mackenzie? I was sleeping!" She yells. "Sorry, but something's up. Notice something off?" I say. Still ticked off, Kelsey looks around. "No.. Oh, wait yes. Where is the smell of delicious pancakes cooking?" "i dont know, but i'm checking it out. Care to get up and come with me?" I say. "Well, yeah! I 'm hungry." Kelsey says.
We creep down the hall, quiet as little mice. Nothing. The kitchen is dark, implying that no one has been in here for a long time. We check Mom's room. No mom. The rest of downstairs is eerily quiet too. "Wow. Seems like no one's been in here for awhile..." Kelsey says sadly. "Yeah, it's weird. It hasnt been like this since my Dad left us..." We go towards the spiral staircase, a tad nervous because my mom doens't ever go up here. It was mom and Dad's room before he left, there's too many memories. We tiptoe to the center of the room. Nothing was here. Not even shadows.
I feel something wet on my foot, it's probably water from a leak. "Okay, she's not up here, lets go. its getting creepy in here." Kelsey says. "Okay." I say relunctantly. "If she isn't up there, isn't down here, where... What?" i say, noticing Kelsey staring at my foot like it's bleeding or something. Turns out, I'm not far from wrong. " Dude, Mackenzie what did you do to your foot it's covered in blood!" screams Kelsey. She turns and runs up stairs. I follow, a bit slower. I hear a scream, and dash like a madman upstairs. Kelsey is staring at something, her face like death. " What is it, Kelsey?" " L-l-l-look!" she cries. "What! Oh. My. God!!!!!" I yell, as my vision blurs and i start to fall. Kelsey somehow catches me.
The thing was, The body of my mother was laying in the corner, surrounded in half-dried, gunky blood, coming from a stab wound in her stomach. That's when i mercilfully blacked out.
