Sleep... the best, the worst, the safest, the scariest.

Running, feet smacking the floor as I try to hide. I ran around the corner peeking around the wall with my hair falling over my eyes. Ever so carefully I moved my hand from the wall which left a bloody smear, I gasped but caught myself causing a slight cough to escape my trembling lips. I moved my hair out of the way and that was when I saw her, standing there, facing away from me. I tried to steady my breathing but every time I would breathe in, the cold air caught in the back of my throat, and when I tried to breathe out my lips shook and my breath was louder. I tried to step back only to trip over the floor. The noise was too loud, I quickly peered around the corner only to see her running at me. Her eyes pierced right through me... I turn around and ran, locking the door to my room and flicking on the light in the same moment. I heard breathing outside the door, and the knob tried to open becoming more forceful as it went on. There was scratching and screaming. I pulled out my phone to try and call the police, a few moments later I thought I saw a vehicle pull up so I pulled back the curtain and blinds to look out the window. At that moment I saw no one was there but the scratching had stopped, I looked at the door and saw the shadow retreat, but when I turned back to look out the window, something stared at me. The phone rang, but I blacked out.

I woke up that morning to a phone call, the whole room was dark and the flash of the phone was blinding. I turned down the brightness and saw my friend Jade calling. I pushed my bangs back to cover my left eye and slowly answered. My voice was trembling as I wiped sweat from my forehead.

"H--H" I tried to speak but was cut off.

"J---J--" Jade was crying.

"Jade what's wrong?"

"I-Its Josh..." I instantly felt something in me sink."Come over here quick..." She explained.

"I'm on my way." I ended the call and slipped on a jacket. I ran out to the dining room where I grabbed some flip flops and my keys. I ran out the door without checking the time. I sprinted to the garage and got into my truck. I backed out of my driveway and started down my street. It was empty except for the occasional street light.

My phone started to ring again and I answered.

"Hello?"

"Where are you?!"

"M-mom!!???? I can explain."

"Go ahead.."

"Jade called... she told me something happened to Josh."

"Skyy.... do you not know what time it is?"

"Ill be back in an hour bye."

I continued onto the highway driving in silence until I got off to the suburban part of the city. I turned into a driveway and saw the porch light turn on. I ran up the steps but before I could knock the door swung open.

"Jade?" She hugged me and cried.

"H-he's dead."

"W---w--what??" I felt a tear roll down my cheek.

"He left me a goodbye text and then called me, but when I answered I heard a chair scoot and a loud bang and then choking...."

"You don't think..." By now I was in tears. "Jade, we have to go now. She slipped on a jacket and shoes and we climbed back into my truck. By now the tears blurred my vision.

"W-why?" I cried.

"I don't know."

I nodded and put it in reverse.
