First Day Of Autumn

When the warm breeze of June

And the bright green trees

Are replaced with a chill

And the shudder of leaves

One by one they fall

Like broken crumbled dreams

Torn from their life

I try not to hear their screams.

Their poor destruction

Leaves me with tears in my eyes

And I sit and wonder

"Why don't they cry?"

And I turn my head

And slowly walk away

With my heart in my throat

Trying to forget this day

Then out of the corner of my eye

I see a young girl

Laughing without

A care in the world

Throwing the leaves

Dancing around

Streams of red and yellow

Falling to the ground

And that's when I realized

Why the leaves do not cry

Falling off the trees

Is just the beginning of their life

They love to make joy

And to see children smile

And they still get to fly

Once in awhile

Thrown in the air

And slowly floating down

Their bright shades of red

Making a sunset on the ground.

And now I see

Autumn is not cruel at all

So I smile at

The first day of Fall
