The Inn

Oldirín looked over to the shadowy corner where a hulking wizard sat. In all of Güderle he had never seen one so big. And this took into account his many travels through the years of his youth. Even in his years of exile in the snowy Hamensun mountains, Oldirín had never seen such an imposing figure. And he had seen many imposing figures: Golgath the Great, keeper of the great flame, Fillum, the slimy spelunking orc who could convince an elf to play hopscotch with a hobbit, (Oldirín remembered how he barely got out of that cave with his life), Canondell, Zever, and Frobes to name a few. We could go into great deal about the many adventures experienced in Oldirín's travels, but that would take a few moons, and there are pressing matters that deserve more attention right now. Here the giant wizard sat, in, of all places, Brekin Inn. His head was down, his face dark, his clothes were faded. Was he malevolent or friendly? Oldirín couldn't tell but something in the air made him become wary. His neck stiffened and eyes became alert for a few seconds as he stared at the wizard. He did not stir and Oldirín calmed his muscles, reclining onto his stool.

Oldirín nudged Silga. "Look over there in the corner and tell me if you have ever seen such a brute."

Silga glanced and then turned his head back, astonished. "No! Alas, never! What an intimidating creature. A song seems fitting to welcome this strange being," he said with a glimmer in his eye.

The dwarves, all holding mugs filled to the brim with ale all agreed with a hearty laugh, banging their hands onto the bar.

Oldirín stood slowly, "Alright, alright, I will recite one for all of you, but I will only recite it once. Listen closely and you may get the point, do not pay attention and you still may be able to be entertained."

Across the murky pond of Oswelo, the rabbit of the water walks to and fro

An adventurer had never dared to challenge the waters for fear of the keeper

The keeper of the swamp, some say has giant claws

To grab his prey and destroy their souls

Each and every night, a growl can be heard from miles away

To most, they forget about it and go about their way

But if they were smarter, they would know the truth behind the sound

Many a brave soul has ventured near, to research the strange species of the pond

But no one on this side of Hurendale has lived to bring back a tale

Of the mutant frogs, the poison toads, the jackrabbits of old

Luckily for you, I know a soul who has unlocked the secret

He braved the murky waters and challenged the beast

The growl ne'er caused him any fear

He took the beast by the jaws and told it to stay

He whispered a message of ancient origin in its great ears

Brus arganocge helim za fruin

Lukitered Humenwerp zare'ed golent

Vukenzol swalet geutric footroth

Va trun caer zesh onipulus both

Now, there are many stories of lore that tell of how this one ends

But the one I believe goes like this

The beast shrunk into a speck smaller than the pin that holds the papers of old

And the hero went on his way home

And came to our inn and sat in the corner

If you have a brain and half a wit, you'd be a fool not to be thankful for him.

Cheers rang out from across the entire room. The wizard
