Follow the Butterfly

Follow the butterfly, that's what they always say.

But they never told me that it would go away

For many years I waited for the butterfly's return

I never once noticed my world slowly start to burn

My hair became matted, and my eyes grew dull

As my life choices slowly started taking its toll

But then it came, my butterfly returned to me

And if my legs still worked I would have jumped with glee

The butterfly spoke in its softest and sweetest voice

"You can come with me if you want, it's forever your choice."

"We can sing and dance and laugh and play."

"It's always beautiful there, night and day."

" I will come with you, but what must I do?"

" You must give up the life you once knew."

So there I hung, feet lifted off of the ground

At least where I'm going I will never be bound

Follow the butterfly, as simple as a spider catching a fly

They didn't know the butterfly was a lie

The demon waited, teeth and ambitions bared

Ready to see who the butterfly had snared
