The shadow dragon landed with a thud at his cave. Then he walked inside, with me still in his mighty grasp. He set me down gently and glared at me.

"Stay here...I am going to get your mother. You'd better not move from that spot. You are on a time out"

Time out? Ugh...I hated feeling like a little kid again. I sat down and played with the rocks on the cave floor. After a few minutes, the shadow dragon came back. This time with another shadow dragon. She looked a lot more slender. I looked at her eyes. Definitely female. It looked like she was beaten up. She had scratches and bruises on her scales and what looked like a bruised eye too. I wondered what had happened to her...

"My son...? Is that you...?" she asked quietly.

"Y-yeah...I guess so..."

I didn't know what to say. I felt so bad for her. I really wanted to know how she got those injuries. "I want to speak to you later. I have to speak to your father first..." she said as she pushed him to another room in the cave. I really wanted to eavesdrop and hear what they were going to talk about. When they were far enough, I sneaked over to the room they were in and I listened close.

"Betsalel, you are better than this! Did you have to force your son to come back? And go tearing up villages and eating and killing and just being ruthless and mean all just because we had to abandon our son to save him?!"

"Brangwen, we are dragons! How else was I going to take out my anger? I couldn't live without my child! Without my only child, I have nothing but rage!"

"You didn't see me slaughtering and killing when we abandoned our son! You've changed! You are not my dragon mate I used to know!"

I started to growl angrily. Sweat dripped from my head and I tensed up. As I got angrier and angrier from listening in, I started to shapeshift. My arms and legs turned into dragon legs. And my face turned into a dragon snout as the rest of my body turned reptilian...I grew black scales...I grew a tail...and then finally...I grunted hard as I felt dragon wings grow out of my shoulders. It took a bit to get used to my shapeshifted body.

I saw them both growl and roar at each other, as the argument escalated into not just an argument...but a fight! I watched Brangwen defend herself as Betsalel swiped at her and tried to grab her! Brangwen held Betsalel down to the ground by his snout but Betsalel scratched her leg, causing her to roar and lose grip of his snout. They continued to fight. They scratched at each other's bodies and bit each other strongly, leaving behind wounds and bite marks! Eventually, Betsalel overpowered her and grabbed her by the neck and shoved her against the cave wall! Brangwen groaned and leaned her neck against the wall, feeling defeated...

"You are no longer my mate...you have failed me and you are disloyal...you will never know what's best for our son..." my father growled angrily at her, as he raised up his claws to take one last swipe at her face! I couldn't let him do this! I roared and flew into the room and blew a fireball at his back! It was a direct hit! He roared and let go of her and turned to face me! He recognized me instantly!. "Stop this, Father! I am not going to let you hurt my Mother!" I roared and hissed. What was I saying? I had doubted before but...I suddenly accepted this pair of shadow dragon as my mother and father! It was true after all! I just knew it!

"This is business that you should not be in son! I am teaching your mother a lesson!"

"She's my Mother! Anything business with mother is my business too! Please don't hurt her like this any longer! No more!"

He dropped my mother and she landed weakly on the cave floor. He turned around and glared at me.

"If you want to hurt me too, then fine...but I'm begging you...don't do this..."

I burst into tears and laid down on the cave floor. I never felt so sad and heartbroken in my life. Here I was...I loved my real father and my real mother...I cared for both of them...I hated seeing them fight like this...

My father frowned sadly and looked down at me. He didn't like to see me cry. He felt so terrible. "Oh my son...come here..."

I was too scared to come towards him. "No, daddy...you're a monster...you really hurt my mommy..."

My mother groaned weakly as she stood up and walked towards me. "It's okay my son...your father loves you very much...you know that..."

I looked at my mother and listened to her. Then I slowly walked towards my father. My father picked me up and hugged me tightly against his chest. He also looked towards my mother and hugged her too.

"I'm sorry..."

Just by saying those two words, his heart softened. And he started to cry. Those two words were words he had never spoken in his life. He had finally broken down. He was changing. Shedding his skin. Become his old self again...I slowly spoke 3 words to my father...

"I forgive you..."

As I said those words, I pet his cheek and wiped away his tears. He smiled weakly, but then frowned again.

"Your mother and I have something to tell you...as you have figured out...we are your real parents. You see...humans that hate us shadow dragons have been hunting us down and wanting us dead. To save you...our son...we sent you to a wizard. And that wizard changed you into a human. With your dragon traits still intact. Then the wizard sent you to another realm...the human realm. You were left at the doorstep of human parents who wanted a child. And it was the wizard that made the Dragon Defenders novels and sent to them to the human realm...so that we could find you again and have the novels lead you to us..."

So that explained it all! That's how what I thought was just fantasy was real after all! I nodded silently and spoke up to ask a question.

"Mother? Father? Do you believe in God?"

"Well...sure we do, son. We believe God had His protective hand over you. But we've sinned against Him horribly..."

They both had sad looks on their faces. I wanted to give them hope.

"God loves you, father. And you too mother. If you confess your sins and repent, He will forgive you...I promise..."

They nodded silently and bowed to the floor, confessing all of their wrongdoings. I put my hands on each of their heads and prayed too.

"God...please forgive my mother and father and give them another chance...I know that you love them both very much and that you will forgive them...and I want you to heal my mother and father too...heal them of all their injuries...please...in Jesus' name, Amen"

This was the first prayer I had said in a long time. I didn't think even think about it. It just came out...as though a spirit was guiding me. Suddenly, a bright white light blinded my eyes as both of my parents glowed. All of their wounds slowly disappeared, and they stood up as they regained their strength. God had forgiven them! God was healing them!

When the bright light vanished, they looked down at me, smiling happily.

"Thank you so much, our son...our little dragonboy..."

"Well don't thank me! Thank God! He forgave you and healed you!" I laughed and shook my head.

"Right, of course" they laughed in return and my father leaned his neck down.

"Come on son. Let's go for a flight and see your friends. It's time to make amends"

"Okay daddy!" I giggled and flapped my wings, eager to fly as a dragon for the first time. They headed to the entrance of the cave and jumped and took off in flight. "Wait for me, mom and dad!" I ran frantically to catch up and then jumped and flew behind them, keeping up with their flight. I couldn't wait to tell the Dragon Defenders what happened to me!
