Oliver's POV
The weekend past and the dreaded Monday showed up quicker then expected. Sunday evening was mostly spent avoiding any conversation about mates or things along that topic. The fact I had to stay in the closet is one thing but hiding my mate from my own mother is another, plus it's stressful I have to constantly have my phone with me just in case Xavier texts me and my mom reads it, ignore his very frequent calls and try not to look suspicious and uncomfortable while doing it...I had to admit I was scared. My mom drove me to school that morning and dropped me off at the front. I had learned my mom wasn't an attorney any more but instead a guard on the northern side of our territory, wherever that is.
I waked into school and smells I had never encountered before flooded over me. Smells of the awkward freshman that are getting the gist of their first year of high school, the smell of teenager hormones, sweat, embarrassment, not to mention some already marked mates lingered in the halls. I had started to wonder what I smelled like when I first walked into this school...know wonder everyone looked at me strange the first day.
I walked peacefully to my locker and started my daily routine: unnecessary books in the locker, necessary books in the bag, few pieces of paper, panic because I forgot to do my homework. I huffed as I thought to myself, not even two weeks in this school and I've already sunk into the program. Suddenly a squeal rang out from across the hall way and I immediately lifted my head from the current homework I was rushing on. A familiar strawberry blonde started running towards me that was pursued by her best friend chasing her through the packed environment.
"OLIVER!!! DREW IS TRYING TO MURDER ME!" Mackenzie screamed as she hid behind me.
"ONLY BECAUSE SHE DROPPED MY PHONE IN HER SMOOTHIE!"
"Oh please, I was just saving you from getting yourself into a relationship you can't get out of..."
"Again with the relationship drama? Mac what's the matter with you, every time I'm about to get into a relationship with someone you always find some reason why I can't date them."
Mackenzie stepped out from behind me and crossed her arms. "I'm just looking out for you!" She defended.
"From what?"
"I-I don't know getting raped and stuff."
"See, look at that you don't even have a reason, what do you enjoy me being alone?"
"It's not that..." She said quietly.
"Oh really?! Well that's what it's been the last twelve years we've known each other, you've never liked any girl I've taken interest in ."
I didn't know what was going on in the short time I've been here Drew and Mackenzie were always so close I had never sensed any tension and at the party they both seemed so close they were flirty.
"Well then if your tired of it, how about we just go our separate ways?!" Mackenzie yelled and I noticed people were starting to stare.
