She didn't want to go to be tutored today. Well she never wanted to be tutored, but today especially. Her name was Alice and she was almost ten. She had beautiful long, blonde hair, and the most gorgeous smile you had ever seen, she was truly beautiful. Little Alice loved adventure and she often wondered about the house, so it wasn't uncommon to hear her Uncle yelling out, trying to find her, it was rather funny when the entire house staff ran around trying to find little Alice.
But on Tuesday afternoon, while everyone was running around trying to find Alice, Alice found something herself. You see Alice had been in the attic, she was looking out the window at the rumbling clouds that charged like bulls across a grey painted sky when she noticed a little door she hadn't ever noticed before, and this was extremely exciting for little Alice as she had thought she knew the manor upside down and back to front. The little door was locked so Alice ran down stairs to find the key.
"Alice where have you been?" said Linda, the head of kitchen.
"I'm sorry ma'am I was only exploring," little Alice replied.
"Well quit running off on you Uncle, and Mrs Crumble-snap shall be here soon," Linda tossed over her shoulder as she walked off.
"Ugh, Mrs Crumble-snap, what whohar" Alice said under her breath.
Alice then walked into the drawing room of the beautiful manor house, where her Uncle was currently working.
Without even looking up he pointed his finger at little Alice and said,
"Now where have you been this time missy?"
"Oh, Uncle I was up in the attic"
"Well was it worth ruining your beautiful dress?" he asked.
Alice's Uncle had still not looked up, but little Alice always had a terrifically bad habit of ruining dresses.
"Well I found a little door?" She said, sheepishly.
Alice's Uncle stood up and leaned over the desk.
"Well in that case in must have been worth it" He said, smiling.
Alice beamed.
"Lets see if we can find a key then, aye Alice?" he said, walking around the desk.
Alice laughed.
"How did you know it was locked?" She asked.
"Would you be in my office right now if it weren't?" He said.
Alice laughed again.
"No I wouldn't"
And they walked into the kitchen to the key rack.
"What did the lock look like?" Alice's Uncle asked.
"Well it was really old and silver" Alice said.
Alice's Uncle held an old, rusty, key in front of her face.
"Is this the one?" He said.
"I do believe it is, yes," little Alice said.
"Lets go try it," and they climb up the little trap door into the attic.
But when they unlocked the door, the only thing behind it was bricks.
"Oh" sighed Alice, very disappointed.
"Well that's a shame," her Uncle said, "how about we go down stairs and wait for Mrs Crumple-snap? Aye?" and he locked the little pointless door behind him.
"Okay but can I keep the key? We have no use for it anywhere else anyway" Alice asked.
"I suppose you may Miss Alice" her Uncle said, bowing and handing her the key.
"Thank you Mr Uncle" She said, curtsying.
They then walked back down stairs to wait for Mrs Crumple-snap.
Once they reached the lounge room Alice announced she was going to the bathroom and went back upstairs, only instead of turning into the bathroom, she went straight up into the attic. Why, she had no idea, she just thought there was something strange about that door. She took the key out of her pocket, slid it into the lock and turned it. Click, the door swung open.
Only this time there were no bricks.
