Books. The best thing in the world. I, Harper Lee Houston, love to read. Yes, I was named after Harper Lee (my all time favorite author). Her book, To Kill a Mockingbird, is absolutely amazing, the characters and descriptions are incredible.

My mom was the one who named me after her because she loved to read too. Unfortunately, she has a really, really far away job... My dad on the other hand is a goofball and works at the nearby middle school, Jordan, as an English teacher. So overall my whole family has a connection with writing.

Oh, did I forget to mention that I'm going to try to keep a diary, but every other time I tried I've failed...so here I go.

"Oh god, oh god... oooohhh god!," Alice (my best friend) mumbled as she practically tripped over herself to steer clear of the three populars.

Stacey, Casey and Veronica already had everyone in their shadow, and it was only the second day of school! I can't believe I'm already a Junior! Halfway through high school! One more year after this!

I turned and dodged the growing crowd as Alice steered me through it by the elbow. This was normal because we had already started our old habit of me reading as I was led to class. At the moment I was reading  The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway.

I sat down at my desk, my nose still buried in the comforting pages of my book.

"The bell has rung, Miss. Houston. Please put your book away," called Mrs. Kim. (Another daily ritual). I  lay my book on my desk, still open. "In your backpack please." Mrs. Kim ordered. I groaned and gently shoved my book into my bag. "Okay, so today let's start with talking about Algebra..." and on droned Mrs. Kim and on droned the next few periods until lunch.

Lunch was usually a pretty good time in the day because Alice and I would talk about books and our fantasies.
"Okay so what's your new fantasy for the day?" I asked Alice. Alice can always come up with a good and crazy fantasy.
"Um...Probably my new fantasy would beeeeah....that Veronica trips and falls into a really creamy Mac & Cheese container thingy." Alice replied viciously. Alice and I may be in high school but we were full out thingamobober people. "What's your fantasy today?" Questioned Alice as she tried to raise one eyebrow but failed.
"Ohh... Same old, same old..... You know," I answered with a successful eyebrow raise. Alice groaned, at my usual answer or my successful eyebrow raise-I'll never know. Suddenly, Alice perked up and turned slightly to stare at the cafeteria doorway. Walking in were the three populars then I realized what Alice was thinking. She wanted Veronica to trip. I giggled and Alice shifted her gaze momentarily to me then refocused. Unfortunately for Alice and the poor girl in yellow, Veronica glided down the aisles only to trip a freshman and then settled at the populars table.
"One day......one day she'll be the one tripped," Alice mumbled clearly disappointed and frustrated. Thinking quickly to distract her, I started talking about her favorite book.

*ring* The last bell of the day, finally. I went out into the hallway and headed to the front gate. On a normal day I would walk to Jordan because it's only a few blocks away. But today I'm going to Alice's house to finish up our little project.
I turned and walked to the corner of the school but, like always I had my nose in a book so didn't see the boy on the bicycle coming strait at me. At the last moment another boy came out of nowhere and pulled me away, but being the clutch I am I tripped over my saviors shoe and fell face flat on top of him. Also being the book lover I am I gasped at how handsome he was, perfect for a romance novel. Brown hair and chocolate brown eyes, chiseled chin and a dimple on his left cheek when he smiled.
"Are you alright?" He asked gently. I almost gasped again but instead I scolded myself for falling for a romance novels recognizable plot.
"Yes, I'm alright thank you for helping me." I replied. I turned and picked up my now folded book, flipped to my page started reading and kept walking. I heard a laugh behind me and turned.
"My name's Michael, you should be more careful of where your going." He smiled. I just nodded my head in turn and put my book away and quickly walked to where Alice was waiting.
"I saw that!" Taunted Alice as we walked to her mothers car. I groaned and looked at my dark blue vans, knowing how what just happened looked. Alice opened the door to the silver sleek sedan and plopped down on the leather seats. I scooted in after, still blushing. Deciding to try to play it cool I turned to Alice and said,
"Think what you want." I held my gaze as long as I could then turned away. Of course her being my best friend she saw through me.
"Ok, I will." Alice chuckled.
"So how was school girls?" Mrs. Thompson asked. Alice groaned, and this time I chuckled.
"Mom......." Alice complained, she hated when her mom asked, she claimed it made her feel uncomfortable.
"It was great, Mrs. Thompson." I answered, now the tables have turned, I thought to myself. Alice and I turned away from each other and I watched the cars zoom by my window. I started counting red cars then got bored. "Alice," I ventured, I got a huff as a reply, "I'll take that as a sure keep talking.......want to look for license plates?"
Alice swiveled her head and asked, "That's it? That's all you needed to ask?"
"Yes..... Why?" I smiled, I knew these kind of things annoyed her. From reading all those books it would annoy me too, but shush, let's keep that part a secret. Who knows what would happen if Alice knew.

A/N:   Hi I don't really write too much instead I read a lot but this story popped into my head and I said, hey, why not see how long I can drag this out. Sorry, run-on sentence I'm still getting the hang of this (I actually had to go to my friends story to see how to do the thingys at the end and hey! I figured out it's called author notes. Sorry, another run-on sentence.) Anyway I hope you enjoy the little piece of a story there is and give comments, that would really be a confidence boost. Dang! I got to stop writing run-on sentences, but anyway bye and thanks! (Ha! That wasn't a run-on sentence! or was it? I'm gonna google it😀😘😘)
