Laying in the still quiet of the night, Maddy felt the weight of Jake's arm draped across her stomach. She could feel his soft breath against her cheek and smiled with the protective nature of his arms. She had said to herself that she felt at home in his arms, and his words had driven deep within her heart.

"Maddy, I don't know who hurt you so, but I swear this to you right here and now. As long as my arms hold you, as long as my heart beats next to you, you will know what love is."

She turned her head toward the French doors of the bedroom and could see the full moon peeking through the curtains. Always a fan of the full moon, she wanted to leave the comfort of Jake's arms to bask in the moonlight. He felt warm and strong - something she had desired for a long time.

She gently put her hands on his arm and stealthily raised it while sneaking out of the bed. Jake moaned, but did not awaken. Instead, he turned on his other side facing the French doors. The moon lit his face with a sweetness that surpassed Maddy's imagination. She so wanted to kiss him gently, but she did not want to disturb his sleep.

Maddy stood and stretched. She shook her long hair and ran her fingers through it to smooth the tangles. Reaching for the chaise in the corner of the room by the nightstand, she slipped her white satin robe over her naked body. Again, Jake moaned softly, but didn't stir.

Maddy padded over to the French doors and quietly opened them stepping out on the back porch deck. The white robe hugged her curves, and if Jake had been watching, he would have seen how sensual and erotic she was feeling. Her hips swayed as she moved into the moonlight. The breeze teased at her hair tenderly brushing tendrils across her face. Her robe moved in the frolicking air hugging against her skin and moving away to reveal her nude body underneath.

She stood still listening to the night sounds. She heard the crickets singing, the frogs croaking their songs. Just overhead she heard the cry of an owl looking for its prey, and there in the background, the sound of the babbling water in the creek as it made its way to the Sacramento River. Nature's orchestra played a symphonic background to the night songs that lifted her heart even further.

Maddy had always adored the full moon and often would stand in its light nude just taking in the light and relaxing in its energy. Tonight was no different, except she wondered what Jake would think if he awoke. Would he think her strange? No matter, this is who I am. If he is going to be a part of my life, he may as well get used to it.

As she had done many times before, Maddy untied the robe and let it fall off her shoulders down to the deck floor. She raised her arms toward the light of the moon and took a deep breath. Her face turned upward, hair cascading down her back, her curves visible in the moonlight. Maddy shook her head throwing her hair away from her face and around her shoulders. Her skin seemed luminescent in the moonlight, and for the first time in a very long time, she was not self-conscious being completely naked and vulnerable.

She swayed her hips and moved her feet in an ecstatic dance that came from her belly. Her arms moved in an erratic fashion that seemed to grab at the air as she brought the breeze against her in an imaginary tour de force. Maddy rocked her head back and forth and slowly spun around in her own dance to her own inner music. Suddenly, she stopped the erotic dance.

As she stood akimbo, arms raised high, she let her mind drift to just a few short weeks ago when she first met Jake and slammed right into the big bear of a man in the front lobby. She smiled as she remembered how embarrassed she was when he escorted her to her cottage.

She remembered the electricity that seemed to spark between them. And she remembered how his first touch on her skin sent her mind and body reeling.
