Jack rolled over, mashing his face into the side of his pillow. Trying to pretend his alarm wasn't blaring, he squeezed his eyes shut. Sighing, Jack decided that he couldn't ignore his alarm for much longer and threw the duvet back, swinging his legs out of the bed. He whacked his alarm to get it to shut up.
He felt his way to the bathroom, rubbing his eyes. He looked at himself in the mirror and splashed some cold water on his face. Jack felt better already. Rubbing his face with a towel to stop the water from dripping onto his shirt, he walked back into the bedroom and unplugged his phone from the charger. Jack then when in search of breakfast.
Once he had sat down at his table with a bowl of rice crispies, he looked at his phone.

Jack smiled, sliding the notification across and placing his thumb over the home screen button. Hazel had gone out with Dodie and Louise last night.
You have one new message.
1:43am

JAAACCKK!!
He held the phone away from his ear, deciding to put it on speaker and place it down on the table so he could eat his cereal. He had to catch a train in an hour.
Dodieeeee, I have Jack! I got Jack!
Hazel's voice got quieter as - presumably - she moved away from the phone.
She put it back to her ear again.
Heyyyyyy Jack. We're trying to get a cab, but there aren't any cabs. Why aren't there any cabs Jack Howard?
Jack laughed to himself as Hazel's accusatory claim filtered through the phone.
WE HAVE A CAB! Okay, I'm getting in the cab Jack Howard. WAIITTTTTTT!!!
Jack filled his mouth with more Rice Krispies as he heard the wind on the phone. There was a lot of movement.
GO GO GO!! We have to get away from the gremlins!
Hazel spoke into the phone again.
Jack, I'm in the cab now but we're being chased by gremlins. LOUISE NO PUT. YOUR. BOOBS. AWAY.
Jack could make out the faint sound of conversation for a couple of minutes. He stayed on the phone, because the voicemail went in for a bit longer.
Louise has left now and Dodie's asleep Jack Howard. So I can tell you my secret now, Jack Howard.
Jack waited a few seconds and then a whispering came through.
I love youu Jack Howaaaard.
