Hey All,
This is my first venture as a writer on Wattpad. So please do comment on what you think about it. I know I haven't written much to comment about, but do try-----------------------------------------------------
It had been a month and homework and class test revisions started accumulating in piles. When they handed in one assignment, the teachers would give them another two or three to do. Zaara's hand was already sore from writing too many assignments and Anakha was always regretting aloud, her decision to come to Primus. Many students weren't as tolerant. Some dropped the course, paying the complete fees for two years. When Anakha asked Minakshi (one of her uncles were in the education department) why they had to pay the complete fees, she made an isn't-it-obvious expression.
"Well, when a student joins Primus, another student loses his or her chance of getting admission here. So if the student abandons the course halfway, they have to pay the whole fees, as the management assumes that the other student who had lost his chance would have stayed."
"That's ridiculous! What if they had taken a loan or something?" Asked Anakha, outraged.
"Anu, someone who has taken a loan would never drop the course. They'd rather bear the pressure than simply waste all the money. But, I don't think any college would let the student drop out without taking the full amount from them." Said Zaara.
"Still, it's ridiculous!" Said Anakha. "Oh God! I wish someone would sue the college!"
"On what grounds?" Asked Esther, chuckling and looking up from an assignment she was writing. She was the most brilliant among us and taught us all during exams.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe... For murdering me by burdening me with homework? And maybe appointing Marcos Paul as a teacher?" Anakha suggested. "ROW THREE, SECOND FROM RIGHT! YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO PICK YOUR NOSE IN CLASS!" She said in mock imitation of Professor Paul, making them all jump.
As she laughed with them, Zaara's thoughts wandered to her past. Handling the pressure was really hard, but it made her forget things.
Her thought shifted to her parents, Suhana and Mohan Rosh. What would they do if they knew what had happened? Of course, they would do everything to comfort her. But everything they would do to make her happy, would hurt her more. How hard they tried to keep her and her sister, Naira happy.
They called everyday, and mostly she gave them short, curt replies. She once told Naira the reason -pressure. The pressure was that bad. And she was guessing the same was the reason for the frequently occurring nightmares.
Pressure had its effect on everyone around her too. Even Anakha who used to be very polite to her parents at first, had started being petulant and yelled at her parents often. Veda, who was the wisest among them was once seen beating up a pillow to went off her anger at Paul, who had not accepted her assignment because he claimed (inspite of Veda's repeated assurances that she had written it herself) to have seen a similar assignment with someone else (She had to write the assignment two times and write the lines 'I will not copy my homework from other students" a hundred times). Amelia tried to cope in a different way, which amused Zaara. She studied, rocking the upper part of her body back and forth, sitting on her bed. The more pressure she had, the more fast she would rock. Minakshi was seen praying in front of the miniature statue she had of Lord Krishna for an hour every night (Zaara wondered where she got the time. She could hardly complete her homework in time even though she devoted all of her time to do her homework). Gayatri showed her irritation and anger more openly. Esther used to mutter definitions under her breath almost everytime, except when she ate.
