Aurora's POV.
"Seriously? It's my seventeenth birthday, mother. And you guys are gonna leave? Again?" I exclaimed.
Dressed up in her usual business wear consisting of a crisp white shirt and a fitted black pencil skirt, my mother let out a soft sigh.
"Sweetie, your father and I never wanted this to happen. I know you were looking forward to spending the day with us, but you have to understand that this is impor-"
"Important, huh?" I interjected angrily. "Your work, your meetings, your hotels, they are always at the top on your list of priorities. I barely even see the two of you anymore! You both left to New York for two months back in San Francisco and left me alone with Charles. Do you even give a shit about your own daughter?"
I should've seen this coming. This had happened on multiple occasions. My sixth birthday, my first dance production when I was eleven, New Year's Eve when I was fourteen, and also, last Christmas. It was bound to happen again, sooner or later.
"Mind your language! Can't you see that all of this is for you? The only reason why your father and I spend so much of our time working is so that you get to live a comfortable life! We are aware that it is your birthday, and as much as we'd like to spend the day with you, we cannot simply disregard our work." she responds while picking up her files and placing them into her beige Céline handbag.
Resisting the urge to give my dear mother the finger, I rolled my eyes and whispered, "Whatever," instilling as much disappointment and frustration as I could into my words.
I turned on my heels and walked up the stairs as I felt tears slowly stream down my cheeks. Entering my room, I shouted, "Have a safe flight!", followed by a loud slam of my bedroom door.
Originally, we had planned to stay home in the afternoon, simply marathoning our favourite movies to watch together in our newly furnished house, and then head out to a nice dinner afterwards. I honestly couldn't wait to spend some quality time with my parents. I'd much prefer to be in a situation where I'd knew they would be leaving again today, rather than having my hopes up and wound up being disappointed.
Now, what exactly am I supposed to do for the rest of the day?
An idea popped into my head, and it may be one of my favourite things to do. Dance. I quickly change out of my silk pajamas into a loose fitting crop top and my favourite Nike Pro shorts, and then successfully slip past the parentals and swiftly run downstairs to our new home gym in the basement as I scroll through my playlist of songs.
And I dance my heart out.
Without realization, two hours had gone by, and my parents had left. Dancing has always been my favorite way to relax and to relieve stress, but it also comes with the benefit of getting some exercise. That was surely plus point as it helped tone my body and prevent the addictive and delicious bacon and pancakes Charles, our butler prepares every weekend from taking its toll on me physically. Exhausted, I take my time and slowly climb the stairs up to my room to take a relaxing bath.
I finally manage to get out of the bathtub after much contemplation, and put on something a bit more presentable, as I was planning to get a cup of coffee at a café, The Gallery. I found it on the corner of a street whilst I was exploring the town after moving in last week. I changed into my favorite sleeveless white dress that falls slightly above my knees, along with a slouchy cream blazer and some nude Louboutins. Those red soles were my weakness. I stroll towards my vanity and begin my almost daily makeup routine.
After grabbing my purse and letting Charles know where I was headed, I leave the house and head towards the garage, where my seventeenth birthday present was kept. My very own Ferrari. Surely, it was a gift from my parents, kind of a sorry-we're-never-around-so-here's-a-ferrari situation. I got into the car and sped down the street.
