I woke up with a sore leg, which I had been lying on all night, and so got up to stretch it. Although I was surrounded by dark musky walls, It felt natural. And I was relaxed for the first time in a while. I had not, however, forgotten where I was, and my priority was finding a way out.
Crawling out of my new den I stretched my long back, feeling the dew between my paws and the gentle mist around me. It was a nice morning, however bleak, and I broke into a trot to check the perimeter fence.
"Morning Charlie" I chant rather chirpily, taking in the new surroundings, sniffing the floor.
"hey" replied a less chirpy Charlie.
"you ok girl?" I question
"yeah, just down cause we are alone...I don't like being alone"
"Awww Im sure it will get better soon, besides, at least we don't need to sit through a boring History lesson" I remind her
"haha I guess"
We continue sniffing around working out everything with our surroundings, about where we are, where the other wolves are, and where the food is....that is a VERY important detail. At that thought I hear footsteps, and I instinctively freeze, before creeping back into a bush that is conveniently behind me. The footsteps near and I see two boots, belonging to a girl, about 10 years old walk past. She is followed by an older woman, and they are both looking around expectantly from the other side of the fence.
I hear them whisper to each other "Dad said the new one is in here didn't he, I can't see anything" the girl whispers
"Don't worry Sara, I'm sure it will show up at some point, it's probably nervous." the mother reassures.
I debate walking out or not, so I compromise by sticking my nose out so the girl can see it... along with my eyes.
"LOOOK MUM! It's the wolf" she suddenly remembers to be quiet again and just looks at me, amazed.
No longer caring about walking away I take a step forward, and sniff the air. They both smell fine, and I hear a gasp as I step further forward "wow that girl really likes us" I hear Charlie murmur.
"lets play shall we" I gesture, at which I know Charlie will agree
"yup, I've always liked cheering children up"
I then back up into the bush again, so Sara can't see me, and stalk over to another bush, also in her sight. Again I make it so that only my blue eyes and nose can be seen, which makes the young girl very happy to be looking at me. The mother is also smiling and I repeat this process before I hear more, heavier footsteps come along.
At this I dash into the bush out of sight amongst the foliage. "Hello Sara", the man, whom I now recognise to be Mr Hope talked to whilst hugging his presumed wife?
"Daddy what's the new wolf's name?" she questions
"she doesn't have one yet sweetie"
"can I give her a name?...please" begged the girl.
Mr Hope's eyes softened and the girl took this as a yes. " she's called Seeker! Because she likes playing hide and seek'Mr Hope just nodded, knowing that her mind was made up. To be fair the name was quite nice..I mean I could have been called play or hide or something else.
At this I heard the sound of a gate click open...and the smell of food. With that I left the family without hearing anymore.
