Everyone on Earth is at war, wielding guns and small knives in their pockets or nestled in the waist of their pants for protection. Civil wars and invasions challenge the integrity and confidence of the 195 countries. Lies became the backbone of living. If they encountered anyone on the street and lied, they could be ending their life or altering its course forever.
When they lie, they have to first sell it as the truth. They must create a believable back-story. Their origin, name, age, and everything has to change. They need to have a natural response time when they are asked personal questions. Their facial expressions and voice clarity are key to selling the 'truth'. They need to show interest, enthusiasm, and other vital emotions to portray their story and speak confidently to make their facade live.
Along with those few brave souls, there were cowards who ran in fear of an encounter. Certainly, it is the easier choice, but the results were as inconsistent as a red moon. Life depended on their fight or flight ability in the face of the enemy. They quickly learn which would be an asset, and which would be a weakness.
Those who lack an artistic ability, agility, or strength are quickly eliminated or kidnapped never to be seen again. Those who have seen their loved ones again were treated the same: quickly obliterated.
Everybody remembered the simpler times. When they went to the store, turned a corner, or stood in their living rooms without a troubled thought about their lives. Life had taken a turn for the worst and had become complicated.
The war began in Hampton, Georgia and gradually spread throughout the country. A disagreement between a farmer and his workers led to a brawl and soon the decapitation of everybody except the farmer. Along with the war, came rumors of aliens taking over the world. They often took the shape of humans and took over their mind before taking control of their body. Once they've seen a loved one get stolen they can be sure they won't see them again and if they do they should run for their lives.
These things believed in a 'perfect world' where peace and harmony were key to keeping your life. They were just as bad as humans, though, and would do anything to obtain serenity, taking over planets to achieve their goal. Earth was just the next installment in their war story.
