I didn't intend to wait by the window all day. It just sort of happened.  A week ago my mom had told me that Maizzy was coming back. I had told my mom I didn't care, but I had subconsciously counted down the days until she was due to arrive. Her parents had been divorced for 7 years, and I hadn't seen her since she left with her mom to Florida. Her dad stayed in the house next to mine and eventually remarried to a lady named Dana. Now they lived in that house with Dana's two kids, Alec and carly. I figured that was the reason Maizzy never came.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when I heard a car pull up in front of my house. I was so focused of the car I didn't hear my mom come into my room. Right as the car door opened my mom stepped in front of the window. "I thought you didn't care." My Mom said in her southern accent.

"I don't." I said, feeling my face go red. I quickly snuck a glance around her, but Maizzy was nowhere in sight.

"Whatever you say, sugar. But maybe you should go ask if they need help unloading." She said as she winked at me and headed to my door.

I waited until she was out and the door was closed before I jumped up and ran to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and fixed my hair a little. Before grabbing my sneakers, and slipping them on.

I tried to walk down the stairs casually, but I tripped down the last few stairs and fell on my butt. I could hear my mom laughing from the kitchen, which made it worse.

I ran to the kitchen to tell my mom I was headed out when she handed me a plate of homemade ginger snaps.

I raised an eyebrow, but she just shrugged. "Maizzy loves them." She laughed. My mom loved Maizzy when  we were little. Maizzy was basically her second daughter, after my older sister Lauren. Everyone loved Maizzy. It was hard not to. She was sweet and could easily talk us out of any situation. She was basically one of those Greek sirens minus murdering a bunch of sailors.

I slowly walked to the house next-door. I was ridiculously nervous to see her. I kept telling myself that this was no big deal, but it felt like a big deal. It felt like I was about to give a speech in front of my whole school naked or I was in the last minute of a soccer game and we were still one point down. Its not like she could've forgotten me. We were best friends for ten years.

I finally got to the front door. I faced the large oak door and just stood there like an idiot. My arms felt like they were filled with sand. I couldn't lift them, let alone knock with them. I stood on the front porch for what felt like an eternity, but couldn't have been more than two minutes. I was debating whether or not I should just knock with my head when the door was pulled open.

I took a step back and looked at maizzy's father who had just opened the door.

"Hey Mr. Everett, my mom sent me over to see if you guys needed help unloading maizzy's stuff. I also have these cookies my mom made for her." I explained in one breath.

Mr. Everett smiled and invited me in. " Mazelynn's things haven't arrived yet but, you are welcome to come go and see her. She's upstairs. Me and Dana were just about to go pick up some dinner. You are welcome to stay if you would like."

"Sure." I grinned, it was just like old times, except maizzy always ate at my house.

I started to walk up the stairs as Mr. Everett and Dana walked out the door. I looked at the house around me. I had been in here twice since Maizzy left because me and Alec, were on the school soccer team together. He was a year younger than me though, so we didn't really hang out much.

I walked doe the hall and stopped in front of Maizzy's door and stopped. The door was open but I knocked anyways. I could see her sprowled our on the bed looking at her phone. She raised her head, which was hanging of the edge of the bed, when she heard the knock.

"Hi," she said in her semi raspy voice, "Are you one of the mover?" She asked getting off her bed.

My heart fell, as I looked at her. She really did forget me. I opened my mouth to speak, but was interupted by a hug.

"HA HA you should have seen your face." Maizzy laughed as she pulled away. She was the same Maizzy. Her hazel eyes always seemed to be laughing, and her long brown hair hung down her back. When we were little she always seemed to be wearing a t-shirt and some basketball shorts, but now she was wearing black running shorts with a grey tank. Her teeth were straighter now. She used to have this huge gap. The gap was still there but the rest were perfect.

"I got you good," Maizzy said, " your still as gullible as you were when we were ten, hudson."

"You scared the crap out of me Maizzy." I said laughing

Her nose crinkled, making the splatter of freckles across her nose to dance. "Nobody calls me maizzy anymore." She stated

"Well what do the call you then? Do they all call you mazelynn now?" I teased, knowing very well that she hayed her full name.

She made a disgusted face "ugh no. Only my dad and Dana call me that. People calk me maze, or just plain old M."

"Nope," I said ruffling her hair, "its still Maizzy to me."

"Well I see you're still stubborn," she said rolling her eyes at me.

We sat and talked for about ten minutes before I started getting a bunch of text messages from my friend.

"What's going on?" She asked looking at the phone in my hands.

"Just a party." That seemed to catch her attention, "you want to go? You could meet people we are gonna go to school with? After all school starts in two weeks."

"I would love to go to a party." She said a little mischievously.

Well let's hope tonight goes ok.
