"Deep breaths. Aim for the target. Clear your thoughts, release."
I release the string and watch the arrow fly straight for the target, piercing the center, splitting my mentors arrow into two.
"Very good Alex," said my mentor " Next time-"
"There is always a 'do better' or 'you need to' why can't you just say good job for once?!"
"I'm sorry Alex, I didn't know I was upsetting you but you mother-"
"But my mother what?!"
"I was going to say that your mother paid me to teach you to shoot a perfect arrow but it seems you don't want my help"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so harsh, I just had a lot on my mind and a lot is happening."
"I can come back later . . ."
"Yes, thank you."
"My pleasure."
Walking away I felt the relief of at least one of my many duty as a princess taken of the wait of my back. Sometime I feel like I am carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders, and no one is here to help me hold it up. After my mother's death I can't help but feel that everyone wants me to be as great as she was but I don't know if I will ever be that good. I felt like archery would help me to not fall apart, I thought it would help me to keep calm in tough situations. It just adds stress but I love it soo much. I walked inside the castle greeted by my personal guard.
"How was training?"
"Fine, thank you for asking."
He looks down at his watch, "You still should have ten more minutes."
"I just need a break."
I turned and opened the lightly shimmering silver handle on my door and softly open it.
I quickly closed the door so that my guard would not follow. I walked over to my calendar hanging next to my window facing the town that lies under the castle. Every now and then a civilian would look up, smile and wave. But it looks like no was outside today.
I picked up the pencil and crossed of the date.
"Ten more days," I said aloud to myself "Everyone is counting on me, especially Mela, I can't let her down" A tear streamed down my face and dripped off my chin.
A knock filled my room and they door open. I quickly turned and pulled out the hidden dagger in my boot and pointed it at the door ready to throw.
"Hey, it's just us" said my best friend since I was young, Lulu.
"Oh, sorry, reaction."
"Haha," My other friend, Stella, burst out laughing " we scared you!"
"Uhh, no it was just a reaction Stella." I said, stern.
"I'm sorry they let themselves in." said the guard at my door
"Leave us." I replied
He nodded and closed the door. Stella headed over to the window and Lulu jumped on my neatly folded bed.
"I don't think I will ever get use to this window" said Stella
"Let's hook up a zip line to it and zip down to the town" suggests Lulu as her hand moved in a fast downward position.
"Uhh, no one is jumping from that window" I said with a little giggle
"Awww, your never fun anymore"
"You mean since I grew up?"
"Yea, we were once the town daredevils, What happen?"
I just looked at her and her head moved down. Stella looked down at her arm.
"I'm sorry I-"
"Nevermind, so why are you here?"
"What we can't come visit our friend?"
"Yea, well, whenever you visit you want something" I smiled
"Okay, okay" She looked at Stella and nodded, "we were wondering if you would help us"
"Depends" I said curious
"There is a group of people not from the town and they rode in and claimed this as their town"
"What, when was this, how did they get in?"
"We don't know and that is why we need you help"
Stella finally spoke up "The two of us can't take them on"
"So you want my help?"
"Well yea, I mean it was your idea to be the hero of the town" Lulu adds
"Yea but that was before my mother died and I had to be crown queen"
"Soo I guess you aren't coming" Lulu's head went down and it looked like a tear was going to run down her face.
I thought about it for a minute, smiled and said "Lulu, if you think that I'm done, then you don't know me too well"
Lulu looked up and smiled wiping the tear away. Stella also smiled and turned to look out the window. I moved over to my bed and gave Lulu a hug.
"Hey, we can't stay here" I smiled and walked over to my walk in closet. We headed to the very back.
"I don't think I will get use to this either" Stella commented
I reached forward and open the closet door and took our costumes come out.
"Okay," I gulp, "One more time." They both nodded.
