Chapter 1: An unexpected visitor.
I pointed my bow downward as a deer walked into the clearing below me. I shifted slightly on the tree branch and drew the bow string back so the feathers on the arrow touched my cheek. I took aim, pointing the arrow a bit above its heart, then released. My arrow soared and pierced its heart. Smiling in triumph, I leapt from the tree. Rowan jumped down from a tree branch and began skinning the animal. "Good shot, Blue." he said.
"Thanks." I replied as I retrieved the bloody arrow.
"Ready for the Wild Hunt?" he asked as he finished up with the deer.
"Of course." I said.
He picked up the animal and I took the skin. Together we walked back to the village.
"I'm hoping to catch one of those Cait Sith to make a headress."
I told him. He turned towards me, his emerald green eyes sparkling with mischief.
"You know you would look pretty sexy in that." he said.
I rolled my eyes and walked ahead, entering the village. I began whistling a tune that alerted everybody we were home safely.
Spirit came to greet us and when I say us I really mean Rowan. She smiled sweetly at and he smiled back. She said nothing to me and I didn't expect her to. We had been bitter enemies for years now. What irritated me about her was she conceited and constantly flirting with Rowan. Its not that I like Rowan its just she always seems to be around when we are trying to relax with each other. She walked in front of me, grabbing his arm and lead him away. In my irritation I hadn't noticed that water droplets were beginning to rise around me. This had been happening often lately.
I was a water faery, the only one in the village. I had no one to teach me to control my gift. I shook my head, continuing to Mother Willow's house to give her the hide. Willow was a kind woman who raised Rowan and I. We never knew our real parents and Willow never explained anything to us. She'd simply say when the time was right we would know. Eventually we stopped asking her. I entered her house and I was surprised to see a man talking with her.
Willow had never shown any interest in men, instead choosing to dedicate her time to the arts of healing. The man was tall, with a muscular physique. He had dark red hair and his eyes were a light shade of gray. Judging by his outfit he was a forester of some type. He noticed my approach and Willow turned to look at me. "Ah there she is." she said.
"Hello, Clarion." he greeted.
"Hello." I replied simply, surprised he had chosen to use my real name.
"Where is Scarlet?" Willow asked. Scarlet was the name she'd given to Rowan because of his hair. I simply shrugged.
"Somewhere with Spirit." I said.
"Go and fetch him, this is important." she said. "Why?" I asked. I didn't want to be anywhere Spirit was. Willow sighed and looked at me her, honey colored eyes soft. "Its about your parents." she said softly.
I stood there speechless for a moment before running out the house. I ran around the village looking for Rowan. As it turns out he was by the river sitting next to Spirit. He listened silently as she chatted away. I called out to him and they both turned around. Spirit gave me a evil glare while I explained to him the situation.
"Really?" he asked.
"Yeah come on." I said impatiently.
"Uh see you later Spirit. " he said ,giving her a small wave.
We jogged back to Willow's home. When we arrived the man and Willow were sitting on the table, awaiting our arrival.
"Sit down you two we have much to discuss." said the stranger.
We obeyed him without question. He cleared his throat and began speaking. "First and foremost my name Sebastian Cross." he said.
"I know you both must have many questions but allow me to speak first."
I nodded eager to hear what he had to say.
"Clarion I knew your parents well, they were very good people." he began.
"I worked for them for many years before you were born." "When you were born your parents were being hunted by dangerous enemies." "For you and your parents well being they had to separate." He then turned to face Rowan.
"Your story is a little more complex." he said.
"As I brought Clarion here, I saw a woman clothed in black at Willow's door." "I called out to her but she fled leaving you behind." "She was too fast for me chase but a letter was left beside you." Sebastian took a deep breath before continuing. "The letter had your name and told to take you to the Whispering Fens when you were of age." "There is where you would meet your father."
"You may now ask your questions, I will answer them as best I can." he added.
I opened my mouth to ask something but Rowan was faster.
"Did you see the woman's face" he asked.
Sebastian shook his head. "Her face was hidden in the depths of her cowl." he replied. "I couldn't make out any facial features."
"Why were my parents hunted and what work did you do for them?" I asked quietly.
"They were rebels against Taisho." he answered. "I also have news for you Clarion." "Another part of my assignment was to bring you back to see your parents." "They have a lot to explain to you." "Rowan you may accompany us as well as I'm sure Clarion's parents can help you find your father."
"I will be prepare things for your journey, so you two go on home and get some sleep." said Willow. I jumped at the sound of her voice. She had been so quiet I'd forgotten she was there. Rowan and I left her house without another word. We said goodbye and parted ways. When I got home I lay in my bed, trying to fall asleep. After hours of tossing in bed, I finally fell asleep.
Chapter 2: The journey begins.
"Blue!" I groaned and opened my eyes to see Sebastian standing over me. "Come now its time." he said. I sat up and he handed me a heavy bag. "What's in this?" I asked opening the bag.
"Its filled with supplies for the journey." he answered. He beckoned to me as he walked out the door. Outside Rowan was already mounted on his horse and Willow stood beside him with the reins to my horse in one hand. She held a sword in her other hand and gave it to me. "You will need this on your journey, the world outside the forest is dangerous." she told me. The sheath was a dark blue and when I removed the sword ,the blade was made blue crystal instead of metal.
"This weapon was made especially for you, Clarion." Sebastian said. "Since you're a water type, I figured a blade of crystal might be more appropriate than steel."
"Be careful Blue." Willow warned. "When you find out the truth, there is no turning back." I nodded in understanding, turning to mount my own horse. She stood back from us and Sebastian climbed upon his own horse. "Are you ready?" he asked. "Yes." I replied. The without another, he spurred his horse on, taking off with us following in his tracks. We rode for a few hours before stopping to rest and water the horses in a small stream. As we rested, Sebastian told us more about our destination. My parents lived separately but we were on our way to visit my father first.
I asked Sebastian to tell me more but he simply shook his head. "I cannot do that. Your father will have to explain the rest to you." I couldn't help but sigh and Rowan patted my shoulder.
"How long will it take us to get there?" Rowan asked.
