Childs Play

"Wanda!"

"Wanda please!"

The Scarlet Witch awoke with a gasp as her eyes flew open suddenly and she shot up into a seated position. Dust and mortar caked her skin and scratches stung on her face. She began hacking, trying to clear the dust from her lungs. Something warm and wet dripped down the side of her face.

Vision began checking her over frantically, petting her hair and assuring himself she was still with the living.

This was never supposed to happen. It was supposed to be a routine mission. Secure the civilians. Protect them from the crossfire happening between their government and a group of rebels. Easy work. Childs play even.

That was what they were all thinking when the bomb went off. Wanda was closest and as such received the brunt of the damage. She wasn't supposed to be that close. She wouldn't have if it wasn't for the brother and sister taking shelter nearby. She always did have a soft spot for kids.

The building collapsed on top of her; her magic barely keeping the rubble from falling completely on top of her and the two children huddled at her feet.

Vision witnessed the entire thing and before anyone could pull him back from the still unstable building, he had rushed in and lifted the rubble. Captain America and Iron Man pulled the children back and took them to a more secure location.

As soon as the rubble was lifted off, Wanda fainted. The pressure was too much. Adrenaline and sheer willpower mainly keeping her up and fueling her magic.

She stopped breathing.

Vision was as frantic as his programming allowed him to be while on a mission.

He called out to the others. Mainly Tony and Thor, the two heroes that had given him life. Tony was the quick thinker as he lowered the settings on his pulsars down to a level more alike one used to restart the heart. Thor held Vision back as he was too distressed to think properly.

With a quick movement of his wrists, Tony shocked Wanda. Her body lifted off the ground slightly as she jolted but her heart stayed silent. Tony waited a second longer before firing off another pulse. Her body jumped again before remaining stubbornly still and silent. This continued six more times, each try as unsuccessful as the last.

Vision tore away from Thor as Tony stepped aside.

"No no no," he whispered as he gathered her up in his arms. "You're not leaving me like this."

With steely determination, Visions arm became transparent and less solid. He reached into the Scarlet Witch's chest and with a careful thought made his hand only as firm as he needed to pump her heart. He continued the rhythmic squeezing as the fight went on around him.

Minutes later she was coughing up dust and still trembling from the electric currents and squeezing from Vision's hand  used to restart her heart.

The relationship Vision and Wanda had tried to keep at least a little bit hidden from the public was now very obviously there as he began pressing kisses to her face and holding their foreheads together. Tears streamed down Wanda's face as she clung to Vision with the little strength she still had in her body.

"I saw him." She gasped out. "I saw Pietro. He was there."

Vision hugged her tighter to his chest and murmured in her ear. "It's okay. It's okay. All is alright."

"We were in Sokovia. We were under the bed again, hiding from the bomb above our heads." Vision had heard this story before; when Wanda had decided to open up to him and share her fears. "Pietro was telling me something. He was telling me to stay strong. To survive. That this was not how I was supposed to go."

"You did survive." Vision whispered against her hair. "I will not let go of you so easily. A bomb is a foolish way to go. A collapsed building is an even more foolish way to go."

Wanda shakily chuckled before falling silent.

"I'm never leaving the tower again are I, Vizh?"

The synthetic humanoid chuckled. "You know I could not stop you if you wished to leave."

Scarlet Witch grumbled under her breath. "That's what I thought you would say."

"Hey lovebirds!" Tony shouted from where he was currently trying to subdue a group of rebels with minimal damage. "If you're done professing your love to each other we could really use some help over here!"

Vision opened his mouth to say something but Wanda quickly placed a hand on his lips. She shook her head gently and made an attempt to stand.

"Stark is right. There will be time to talk later." Wanda wiped the dust from around her eyes and felt the cut on her forehead. It wasn't bleeding anymore, just tender as Scarlet Witch jumped into the fray again.

That was what Vision admired about her. Her determination to always do right and to stand strong in the face of adversity.

But he worried about her. He didn't want her fighting anymore. Not if she was going to get hurt. Not at all actually.

The entire mission he was by her side. Fighting for her. Every enemy that came her way quickly found out they were challenging Vision instead. He saw nothing wrong with fighting her battles but apparently Wanda did. She was giving him side glances and glares the entire time.

Although he did notice that when she wasn't glaring at him, she was smiling faintly and rubbing her heart. Well he hoped it was a smile.
