"Dan! Why the hell aren't you out serving tables? You aren't getting paid to draw on napkins all day." Drew said from across the kitchen.
"These orders have been ready for a good five minutes, get out there and give the people what they're paying for." He barked at the still doodling Dan. Drew, huffing with every angry step, marched his way over to the younger brunette and pulled out his ear buds with one strong tug. Dans features flashed with annoyance before he realized that it was his boss who interrupted his newest customer sketch.
Apologies spilled out of his mouth as he rushed to collect the orders."I'm so sorry, I didn't realize I had been sat here for this long."
"How about you take the night shift tonight, to cover for the time you wasted." Drew said while taking off his apron. Dan let out a quiet sigh and shuffled his way over to table after table giving and taking orders. The cafe was quite busy for a Wednesday afternoon, the sound of chewing food and chatter echoed in the remaining empty tables.
Over the next few hours the people began to trickle out little by little leaving Dan and the Chef in the back as the only people inside. Dan glanced at the clock, it read fifteen minutes past midnight; he sighed and tucked his head into his folded arms on the table. His eyes started to droop closed as he began to lose his battle with sleep.
In what felt like just moments, the soft chiming of the golden bell above the door jerked Dan back into consciousness. Glancing back at the clock Dan was surprised to see the big hand flick over the 3, 3am. He scrambled out of his position on the stool to greet the customer who came in at this ungodly hour. Fixing his hair he stumbled his way towards the gentleman. Stopping for a brief moment to look over the person now sitting alone at the empty booth.
Black wisps of hair fell across the mans forehead cutting off the sight of his piercing blue eyes. Dans breath caught in his throat as he admired the stranger. The skinny jeans and button up shirt that dressed the man flattered his tall slim figure in a way that made Dan blush.
"Eh hem " the man coughed out at the younger boy beside him.A deep crimson blush flashed across Dans face as he realized he'd been staring for much too long.
"Oh, um I'm sorry" Dan stuttered out as he instinctively ran a hand through his wavy locks. The sweat starting to bead across his covered forehead. " I didn't mean to stare, I guess I'm just dazing out a bit." He spoke shyly, attempting to avoid making the awkwardness more apparent. The man stuck out his hand for Dan to shake. Surprised by this gesture, he paused before grabbing ahold of the mans strangely smaller hand. "I'm Philip Lester, but you can call me Phil"
"Well uh I'm Dan, Dan Howell." He said trying to sound confident.
The man smiled at Dans awkwardness and let out a light chuckle as he turned back to the menu.Dan flipped out his notepad and pen, waiting for Phil to order.

Hours went by filled with random chatter between the young men, now alone in the cafe. Even as Dan began closing up he noticed Phil watching him closely, seemingly admiring his way around the kitchen.
As Phil got up to leave he stepped close to Dan, leaning in. His lips ghosting inches away from the taller boys. Only to place a folded napkin into Dans apron. He swiftly turned around and was gone. Leaving Dan with a strange feeling that this man wasn't someone he'd forget.
He unfolded the napkin to reveal Phil's number, neatly written next to a coffee stain. Along with a note saying "call me." The rational side of Dan made him think that this man was as cheesy as they come. But that wouldn't stop him from putting the 7 digit code into his phone under the title; Phil with a coffee cup emoji.
