"Go on, pick a place," Jack said as he held up a map of the United States. I just frowned at him. "Liv, come on. Close your eyes and point at a place. That will be our next place to live."
It was weird how he never used the word 'home'. Though I've always had a roof over my head – thanks to my Guardian, Jack – I've never quite had a home, in a sense. We never stayed long in one place, probably due to suspicion or that the location was taking a toll on both of us. Wherever we went, we never felt comfortable. It was part of the reason we never stayed still.
I sighed, closing my eyes. I jabbed a finger towards the piece of paper and when I opened my eyes, my finger was placed in the middle of the pacific ocean, off the coast of California. A corner of my mouth lifted into a half-smile.
"Better get a boat and supplies ready, Jack," I said.
Though clearly amused, he fought off a smile and told me, "Just pick another place."
And I did. Though this time when I jabbed my finger towards the paper, I attempted to go a little higher and more towards the right. I opened my eyes and leaned forward. My pointer finger was right in the middle of the Olympic National Forest. My eyebrows furrowed.
Oh, no. We're not going to be living in the middle of a forest.
As if he could read my thoughts, Jack laughed and said, "We'll just find a town not too far from the forest. No worries."
I frowned, though I knew what this meant. Forests could work to our advantage. We probably could hide ourselves in the forest and that meant we wouldn't have to suppress ourselves. Which also meant that there was a chance we wouldn't be uncomfortable and we'd stay longer. There was a chance of a home with a forest nearby.
Why hadn't I thought of this before?
So I know that I have Deranged to focus on, and then a sequel to figure out. But this is a story idea I've had for a long time and thought over a lot. With some tweaking and a little bit of changing... I present you TRANSMUTE, an Emmett Cullen fanfiction.
