Part 7
Auntie Jas wasn't her real aunt. Jasmine became real close with Shaka's mother when they first moved to New York, helping Shanti out at her job down at L'orel, a makeup company. Her mother spoke English but because it was so garbled and thick, no one wanted to be bothered with her. That's where Jasmine comes in; she saw how hard Shanti was working to be on common ground with everyone else and took her under her wing, showing her the ropes. As time went on, her mother's speak smoothed out and she started bringing Jasmine around the house. After countless dinners and outings with Shaka, Jasmine went from Jasmine to Auntie Jas.
Auntie Jas was a very pretty woman in that subtle 'I'm a mother way'. Her skin was a brown color, eyes a darker brown hue and her features were proportioned in a way that makes Shaka envious, if only a little bit. Her hair was usually in a flowing, floppy afro but right now of course it was in pink rollers. She was well endowed, with a mound full of breast and enough ass to entice anyone. She was young, maybe thirty but has a good head on her shoulders.
Every time her mother was over excited or happy, she always brings up her friendship with her. Shaka thinks it's cute, having such a tight relationship with someone. It makes her long for a female companion.
Presently everyone was sitting around the kitchen table; Jordan, Judah and Matthew in booster seats and little Erykah in a high chair. Maria was just tall enough to go without, though she was using a cushion.
Auntie Jas sits at the head of the table with Shaka and Daryl on the right side of her. They already said Grace and were digging into their food. Garlic bread and spaghetti.
Yum.
She however, was holding baby Asia and switching her time from gazing at her and picking up her fork and eating. Daryl was holding conversation with Auntie Jas, about what she has no clue. She wasn't too worried about them. Jordan, Maria, Matthew, Judah and Erykah were all blabbing on in that way that kids do and Asia was sleeping soundly in her arms.
She was finished with her food for a good amount of time now, but she was too content on holding Asia some more before she goes home, to get up. Auntie Jas moves around her to help the kids on their feet, putting them in their baths and rounding them off to their room. Daryl picks up the plates and glasses and goes into the kitchen, presumably to do dishes. She doesn't say anything to stop him, mostly because she did the same thing at his house a couple nights ago.
About thirty minutes after dinner ended, tiny feet run back into the dining room, wild giggling following them and echoing throughout the house. She has just enough time to register Maria before she throws herself at her.
"Goodnight Shaka! Hope you come back soon!" Maria wraps skinny arms around her neck and squeezes. Shaka laughs, mindful of the baby in her arms and repositions her.
"Goodnight, I will."
Maria lets her go and Jordan takes her place, one by one each of them saying their goodbyes. When it was little Erykah's turn, she leans down and accepts the kisses she grants her.
"Bye bye." Erykah uses her fist and waves as she waddles after her siblings, almost falling down twice.
Chuckling and knowing it was time to put down her little bundle of chocolate, she stands and kisses her cheek, walking back into the living room. With a sigh, she coddles the baby into her neck before putting her down in the bassinet and covering Asia up with her blanket.
"She's gonna be spoilt when she gets older." Auntie Jas says as she comes into the room.
She takes a step away from the bassinet and shrugs her coat on, more or less agreeing.
