A Heart Living on Seams
She was pissed. She was angry. She felt guilty. She felt weak. She felt above all, confused.
Leevy stood on the sidewalk, a bandage on her cheek labeled "Ninja Training" to make it sound cool. It really wasn't. She'd gotten smacked in the face by Katie and the girl had just so happened to be wearing a ring that morning. That wasn't what she was angry about though. That wasn't even close.
Stacy had gotten a call from someone that morning. One of her old friends from high school and they'd planned out a meeting time later and that was at the root of Leevy's anger. Because Stacy was supposed to have spent the morning with Leevy, just the two of them together. Talking, playing games - whatever, Leevy didn't care. She just cared that they were supposed to be together but couldn't be because someone else had managed to pry Stacy away from her. And she couldn't have that.
As soon as Stacy had explained everything to them, Leevy had gotten angry and started spewing nonsense whilst Stacy was still on the phone. "Ignore them, Stace," or "Hang up already. They're annoying," crap like that. She faintly remembered Stacy, feeling uncomfortable with Leevy hearing the call, running off after giving Leevy a sad look.
Then Leevy started grumbling under her breath. Cursing those old friends of hers, all the while Katie heard everything from the kitchen but hadn't said anything. She'd finally come out of there with a tray of three cups of coffee and some cookies. Leevy was still grumbling under her breath when Katie had placed the tray on the table. She probably couldn't keep herself quiet because she had spoken up as she stood up straight again. "That wasn't very nice at all, Leevy. Stacy was talking to her friends. Do we disturb you when you're on the phone?"
"Yeah, but I'm not on the phone with worthless people." She was never good with words and Katie was offended on Stacy's behalf. Already her anger started growing.
"Watch your mouth, Leevy. That's rude. Stacy's friends are some of the nicest people I've ever met. If you've got nothing to say but trash then keep your mouth shut."
Leevy sighed and stood up, hands on her hips to add a bit of authority to herself. "Of course. People like that don't even deserve to know how I feel about them."
That was when Katie drew a line. She'd immediately given a big smack across Leevy's face to her utter shock. Leevy had turned to look at her with wide eyes afterward. "What's the need to act like such a freaking jerk?!" She'd said. "You're the one that's acting like filth right now!" Leevy had stared at her in shock for a bit before scowling and running off, Katie's own scowl still visible on her face.
Leevy was running around the streets, angry, hot headed, and a feeling a bit claustrophobic. She couldn't find an issue with herself. She couldn't find anything that she did wrong. Why? Because she felt she was being protective of Stacy. Wasn't it a good thing Leevy was looking out for a close friend and wanting to keep her safe? It was good intentions but it came out the wrong way. That's why Leevy found no flaw in herself. Because that was her own world.
There was only so much room in Leevy's little world and she only filled it up with people she could trust, people who cared for her, people she loved and who loved her back. And willing to accept just anyone to enter and exit? That would break everything. That would ruin everything. It wouldn't be her special little world if it didn't have those rules and regulations. There was only so much room and Leevy only cared for those who cared back.
Anyone who dared to step in, try to break the barrier she'd created to prevent people she cared about to be broken away, ripped away, or merely even taken away, she would not deal with, could not deal with. Anyone who broke that barrier, Leevy would break their face. There was simply no room for anyone else. The people she had, she was content. If someone were to enter, if someone were to leave, they'd break apart everything. They'd tear her perfect world apart.
