Before I start

Before I start writing a word more, I want to make one thing very clear. I'm not a traitor. I don't want to gain anything from this book and I don't mean to harm or reveal my kind, although it might seem like that after you finish reading. The main point is, you probably won't believe a word I write, and that is exactly what I indented when I decided to write my story down. My only goal is, if any of the following events might ever happen to you, you'll be warned. And you might, and I say might, have a change of living the truth, instead of being forced to live the lie.

Chapter one - Stuff you need to know

Now, where to start. I think it's best to begin with explaining to you what you are reading, because this is no ordinary book., it's a guide. There are probably a million guides out there. How to fish, how to paint, how to love and hell, even how to teach your dog how to speak. This guide however, can't teach you anything, because when it comes to witches, there's not much to teach. You're not supposed not know about them. Period. And of course you know about witches, history writes all about them. Woman who practise magic, who fly broomsticks, who have cats and hairy long noses, who eat/save/kidnap little children and so on. There are literary millions of different stories about witches. Yes, you know about those witches, but no, of course you don't believe all those stories. And that is exactly the point.

The real secret of keeping a secret is the make it so well known in so many different ways that nobody will believe it anymore. So when you're living your perfectly normal life, and it is suddenly disturbed by a curious event that is impossible to explain. And minutes later you resume that normal life and in an instant you come up with a dozen perfectly normal explanations. I'm afraid to say that you're not that smart, it was a witch. Because that is how we work. Yes, I said we, I'm a with, get used to it. The first spell every witch learns is how to alter a memory. Ever seen Man in Black? It's a lot like that (they copied us, not the other way around), we change the memory of what you saw into a memory much more believable, but we don't explain it. If you force an explanation in someone's head, they tent to doubt it. Every mind works different, and if you give someone else an explanation from your mind, it will trigger the defensive system from their mind and they will doubt the explanation. Doubt leads to recalling of the memory and then the explanation is thrown away as unreliable. What we do is changing the memory a bit, not too much, because that would cause the same effect as forcing an explanation, but just from unexplainable to weird. Humans tend to want to explain everything, so when they register something weird their minds will automatically form their own explanation, and accept it as the truth. Of course it's not the real memory, so sometimes it leaves confusion, not being able to recollect the memory again, not being sure about what you just saw. But the explanation stays, and we are save.

Being a witch runs in the family, but there are no guarantees. If you parents aren't witches it's simple, you won't be one either. If your mother is, it's more difficult. If she is a witch (or a potential), there is a change you are one too, but again, there are no guarantees. It depends on your character. Every child of a witch has the gene, they're called potentials. But the gene only influences you when you have inherited the right personality. A true witch has four main characteristics :curious, smart, brave and cunning. If your mother is a witch, she will have those qualities, but there is no guarantee that you will inherit them. The more you have them, the stronger a witch you are. Of course you can have those qualities without having a witch as a mother, but you don't have the gene, so to bad for you.

The decision if you have it in you to become a witch is not an easy one. It's not only based on how bad you want to know stuff, ore how good you are at lying. You have to go to school, and not just any school, to WWA, Word Witches Academy. At the age of sixteen, every potential has to go there, it doesn't matter where you live or if you're still at school, once you get you're letter, you leave. Ever read Harry Potter? They are amazing books but to bad for me, WWA is not like that. From every potential that arrives at the school, about 50% can call themselves a witch after four years, the other 50% has left and starts living a normal live. But being a potential means being immune to the memory spell, so a normal live is maybe not the right term. Ever walked the streets and noticed that one person staring at something that isn't there, laughing out of nowhere or making a sudden weird move? Great change it was a potential seeing stuff you just can see. So instead of writing them of as crazy, mind them, because they will be your first clue something witchy is happening around you.

For those of you wondering if men can become witches, don't be an idiot. Of course men can't become witches, they become warlocks. Warlocks don't carry the gene, and they are never as powerful as witches, nobody knows why, they just aren't. Another tip, don't ever call a warlock a wizard, they don't like that name, it makes them feel like you're making fun of them. Believe me, I lived that mistake, so don't try it. They also never seem to be important enough to be named, take the WWA for instance. They didn't even take the effort to include warlocks in their name, not that I have a problem with it, but I can imagine it bothers you if you're a warlock. Witches are bitches, that's tip number 3.

I'll put all new tips at the end of each chapter, so you'll remember them.

I can keep explaining everything about witches (and warlocks of course, just proving my point here) to you but you'll get bored and stop reading. Besides that, I want to tell you my story, or at least that part of it that has already happened. You see, every magical being has a story, and somewhere someday, all of those stories are documented and saved for the right time to tell them. So saying I'm going to tell you my story would be a lie, because the only time I can truly tell you my whole story is when I'm not around to tell it anymore. Sucks right? But back to the point. I will tell you this part of my story because I will make you understand why it is so important to know this stuff. Much has changed since I started at WWU, and the main reason for it is tip number 3. Oh, and my name is Rae by the way, might be usefull to know.

Tips:

1. See a weirdo acting strange? It might be a potential, be on the lookout!

2. Don't ever call a warlock a wizard, they to have pride.

3. Witches are bitches, get used to it.

Sooo, that's the first chapter. I'm really knew to this, and I'm also not english so please tell me if I made any mistakes. If you have any comments or tips, please share them because it would really help me improve my writing. I waited a long time before I decided to post a story. I you're currently writing a story that you would like to share, let me know and I'll read it!
