Ava's P.O.V
A light came across inside my eyes, making them move to fit in with the surrounding. Taking a deep breath to comfort myself was the best way to know where I was. I blinked rapidly. The hands whose touched my arm, woke me up as soon as I realized where I laid on. I was on a bed and a nurse checked me up carefully. 'Collins'. I read her name silently then she gave me a smile, acting like she knew that I was calling her name for a help even though I didn't. Why was I in this health room?
I lost in my thought. What happened? I asked myself while looking around the room. The nurse, Mrs. Collins helped me to sit straightly as I was laying on the bed. The pillow behind my back made me feel better. Headache didn't distract me from thinking. She handed me a pill and a glass of water. I grabbed both of them to be inside my body. After 5 seconds, I finished taking medicine, I looked at Mrs. Collins again. She nodded her head and smiled a little.
"What happened?," I asked Mrs. Collins while scratching my head. Then she came closer handed me a wet handkerchief and ordered me to wipe my head without saying a word. I wiped my head as soon as it was in my hand.
"I'm not sure young lady... they suddenly ran you into this room then now I'm just doing my work. They said you suddenly fainted after hitting someone?," she said calmly but she was still confused. She might don't know the reason why I could be here.
"Whats wrong with my body?," I asked her again to stop my curiosity. She gave me a pitiful glare while writing something on her report book about the patients. She took a deep breath and kept silent for a little while. I knew that she wanted to explain clearly, to make me stop asking.
"Ava O'Donnel... Well Ava, due to this report your body temperature is normal now. When you hit that person your heart started beating not normally. It said that you couldn't control your emotion nicely after that your blood's pressure increased then you fainted all of sudden. This could happen because you're not in a normal condition. May I know, did you take breakfast before you came to school?," she explained to me one-by-one. Now, I understood better. I hit Niall Horan? That Rich Kid? Wow... So proud of myself.
"I just took a glass of plain water," I realized that today I didn't take a proper breakfast. The feeling of exciting forced me to skip breakfast. Yawning. I shut my mouth. Mrs. Collins shook her head. Even I didn't have dinner last night.
"Next time, take breakfast okay?," she advised, leaving me alone. Living in this room alone gave me melancholy for the rest of the day. I looked at my watch. 11.59 am. 1 minute until lunch hour came. Wondering about today's menu at cafeteria would make me feel I was away from everyone. Today was the first day of school but something big just happened. Be positive Ava... I said silently, reminding myself. If Niall wasn't around today, I'm sure my day would be great. He was the one who started this first!. I didn't know why he treated me in that way. He never let me to be happy. He always makes me suffer!.
"Hey girl," I heard someone got into the room where I was in. She walked towards me while bringing some food from cafeteria. Sarah. Sarah Princeton. My closest female friend. She came to me with a joyful face. Her long light auburn hair was in a ponytail. She wore a short white dress today. New outfit. I rolled my eyes looking at her while waving hands excitedly.
"Ava! I heard that you hit Niall from your acquaintances!I mean... the ones who saw that happened. OMG! How Ava?! What did he do?," asked Sarah with a laughter following her words. She still laughed loudly like always and couldn't stop doing it for a minute. Sarah's loud voice and her joyful could bright your day with tenses but the tenses to make you feel contagious to join her laughing. She clapped her hands while laughing.
"Erm... he called me a bitch. He wanted to take my place without any reasons! Then I couldn't control myself so I punched his stomach. Now, I'm here," I answered innocently and acted like I didn't do something wrong to someone. She opened her mouth widely. The truth was I didn't feel sorry for him. I did the right thing to defend myself.
"Calling a lady a bitch is a sin! He deserved a punch from you! You go girl! I'm so proud of you! He's too much! He disturbs your life since the Grade 1! Whats wrong with him?," Sarah replied energetically. She sounded like a president who gave a speech in front of her people. I slowly built a smile with my lips. I shook my head, didn't know how to answer Sarah's question. I wish I knew the reason why but he never answers it and he doesn't give a relevant answer. He's like "I don't know" "Cuz you're the ugliest girl I've ever seen" and more. He once called me 'a girl with a dick' as I look boyish. Plus, he always argues about my haircut and my style. He always finds words to make me mad. I tried to ignore him but he will also find ways to make me react with what he has done.
"Ava, I gotta go now! I got something to do even its lunch hour yeah... my task is so disturbing! Bye O'Donnel! Get well soon take care!," Sarah said, leaving me. Now, I was alone again. Her footsteps could be heard in this entire room. So loud. Well, she wore a pair red high heels today...
"Watch your voice miss," I heard a nurse who was just around us warned Sarah to keep her voice slow. She ignored her order and goodbye me loudly. "Goodbye again!!!!,". The nurse looked at Sarah with a fierce glare. Sarah didn't even look at her back. What a naughty kid. I laughed, realizing what she did. Her footsteps couldn't be heard anymore. Five seconds later, I heard someone's footsteps walking towards my room. I knew that I'd have a visitor again. I just waited to know who the persona was.
"Ava, are you okay?," a deep voice greeted me, breaking the boredom. Zayn. I only have two closest friends. One of them is a guy. One of them is a girl. Sarah is my favorite female friend all the time. I tend to talk to her about girly stuff as I was raised and surrounded by men. But she's always here with me no matter what happens. We rarely meet because she takes different course. Plus, Sarah understands and respects me. She concerns about me a lot. The fact is Sarah and Zayn can't along together. They don't even talk to each other like they way I talk to each of them. We're not a gang. As Sarah, she has her gang but I'm one of her close friends while Zayn doesn't have a gang so most of the time he's with me. Basically, I don't have a gang or a squad. Furthermore, I started to be close to Sarah since I stepped into high school while I've been with Zayn since primary school.
"I am," I answered shortly. He nodded. He moved closer to feel my forehead. His eyes widened as soon as he felt my body temperature. Cold maybe. The way his eyes watching me now, I could say that he was worried about me. Zayn does't talk much like Sarah but he prefers acting than talking to express his feelings. He looked at the health report which was next to the bed where I laid on. He took that piece of paper panicky and read it. I just watched him reacting. I got up from my bed slowly. Zayn stopped reading the report and helped me to stand up. Finally I stood up like always. I grabbed my phone from my pocket to call Dad.
"I've already called your father, he knew what was going on and the nurse allowed you to go home. Come on. I'll send you home," said Zayn calmly, holding his car key inside his hand. Did he? Wow. Cool. I didn't have to do those anymore. I nodded quickly, looking for my backpack.
"Here," he said, showing me the backpack. He carried it from the English class. Okay...
"Thanks Zaynie," I thanked him and took my backpack from him. He nodded.
As we walked, leaving the health room I felt awful for letting Zayn to do those things for me. At the same time, I was happy because I could be home earlier. I still felt angry with what had happened because Niall Horan caused this first. I didn't know how to describe my current feelings. Mixed feelings. I hoped Dad would not feel worried about me as much as Zayn did. I felt guilty for making someone worry about me. But he's my best friend, maybe he didn't want to lose me at 17. Hahaha. To be honest, Zayn doesn't have many friends like I do. He always spends his time alone. I mean... busy finishing his drawings or any artsy masterpieces. And, he also likes hanging out with me. I'm the only one who he trusts. Even, I'm his close friend but I know he has secrets that he hasn't told me yet. I won't be forceful to know about his secrets because you know... of course he needs privacy.
While we walked peacefully without any conversations, Zayn suddenly wrapped his left arm around my shoulder "Thank God, you're fine" he whispered into my ear. I just gave him a smile. I looked at his face during our walk to the car, he smiled at me back. He still didn't let his arm to leave my shoulder. The truth was, why did he care so much about me? Like I was going to die. I only had a little fever.
