Sylve entered the dorm for Rank Thirteen's Carmun Squad and was greeted by Terra and Darien's loud bickering. Hilary was curled up on her bunk bed. Sylve walked over to them and stood next to the bunk bed.
"Hilary, do you feel better?" Sylve asked.
Hilary responded with stifled crying. Which caused Terra to briefly glanced in their direction. Sylve jumped up and landed softly on the top bunk, next to Hilary's huddled form.
Sylve folded her large black, sangria, and silver feathered wings and sat with her legs crossed. Next to her, Hilary rubbed her puffy eyes and put her head in Sylve's lap. After a second of mild confusion, Sylve began to stroke Hilary's red-orange hair. Some of Hilary's Squad looked over at them with concern.
"Was that your first fight against a higher Rank?" Sylve asked as softly as she could.
Hilary nodded silently and played with her fingers. Sylve wiped at a spot of dried blood that she had suddenly noticed on the breastplate of her shiny black armor. Which alarmed Hilary, who sat up and suspiciously shifted away from Sylve.
"We had a mission today," Sylve explained.
"Did you have to kill someone?" Hilary asked timidly.
"Yeah. Sadly, with the career we're all training for, you'll get used to seeing and shedding human blood. Sometimes you'll have to shed Demon and Angel blood too," Sylve sighed.
"That's horrible!" Hilary cried. "Don't you ever feel bad?"
"Never. The humans we kill deserve it. I only feel bad when I remember that they have families," Sylve said. "And that their families would come home or be expecting them to come home only to find out that they're dead. I just try not to think too hard about it."
"It's settled," Terra said, turning away from Darien. "You're going to train with us tomorrow."
"You just said that we wouldn't interfere like two seconds ago!" Darien leaned against the bunk bed with his arm over his head.
"Sylve, we are going to get Carmun for 4C tomorrow, so we can teach Hilary more about unlocking the powers necessary for her to achieve Rank Twelve powers," Terra hopped up to the top bunk.
"You guys would really do that?" Hilary exclaimed.
"Of course. I don't want you to die in your first battle," Terra said.
"You guys met me like an hour ago, and you care about me enough to train me?" Hilary asked.
"I can't just let you get killed because of the bullshit training they have here," Terra shrugged.
"Who's your Captain?" Sylve asked Hilary.
As if on queue, Rank Thirteen: Opal Lars approached them.
"Hilary, are you okay?" Opal asked.
Hilary shrugged and leaned back on her pillow.
"Hello, I'm Captain Sylve Xythen of Rank Ten's Hades Squad," Sylve introduced herself. "I was wondering if your Squad would work with mine during 4C tomorrow."
"O-Oh," Opal stuttered. "I'm Opal Lars. That'd be okay...I guess."
"I guess that's settled so let's go to our dorm so I can get my beauty sleep," Darien declared.
