When you live all alone in a large house, sometimes you feel as if there’s someone with you. You become paranoid as you remember all those horror or morbid movies that you’ve watched. You become scared at the tiniest sounds you hear. You can’t move or see a single thing because there was a black out.

You don’t like being alone in the dark. You wanted to contact somebody but your cellphone was left upstairs in your room. You decided to lie on the couch and go to sleep. You hoped that when you wake up, it will be morning.

A sound of breaking glass woke you up. All of your senses became alert. There was a burglar in the house. What are you suppose to do? Run out of the house? Scream for help? You were still contemplating on what to do when you heard footsteps. You shut your eyes and tried so hard to pretend that you are sleeping.

You can hear sounds of the different things that were stolen. You become anxious every minute that passed by. Then you heard the footsteps coming closer towards you. You feared of what might happen to you. You pray inside your head that the criminal would let you stay alive and not to murder you with a butcher knife or whatever equipments those gore and morbid movies managed to come up with.

Your prayer was answered because the only thing that the criminal did was touch your cheek and kiss you lightly on the lips. Then the footsteps started to fade away. You felt tired from feeling anxious and fear for a long time. You eventually fell asleep out of relief.

The things that were stolen were expensive but because your family was rich, it was something that could be easily replaced. Your family didn’t make a big deal out of what happened but still made sure to report it to the police.

The incident was forgotten until you bumped someone. It’s actually a usual thing to bump someone but the unusual thing was the necklace the person you bumped into was wearing. You were sure that it was your necklace because it was a one of a kind.

“See something familiar?” The person smirked.

You instantly knew that he was the thief of that night. How can someone who look so innocent could actually be a criminal? Don’t judge a book by its cover. That’s for sure. “Can I have the necklace back?”

“Does it has some sort of sentimental value to you?”

“Yes. It was given by my first love.”

You thought the criminal would give it to you when he took out the necklace from his neck. Well, you thought wrong. The criminal actually threw it off the bridge. The necklace was probably sinking deep in the water. There was no way on getting it back unless you want to drown yourself. You were too busy looking at the water that you didn’t notice the thief stealing your wallet and leaving.

“Can I have my wallet back?” That’s what you said when you saw the thief again at the mall. He gave you back your wallet but it was empty. You feel stupid for thinking once again that he might probably not be so bad after all.

One day, you were passing by the park on your way home. You saw a kid holding a stuffed animal. A pink bunny. You knew that it was yours because you can see the stitches on the bunny’s arm. You remembered how you cried when a bully ripped the bunny’s arm. Your grandmother comforted you by stitching the bunny’s arm.

“Hey kid, may I know where you got that bunny?” You decided to interrupted the kid that was busy playing with the sandbox.

The kid frowned. “Hyung told me not to talk to strangers.” The kid picked up the bunny and hugged it tightly as he ran away from you. He ran towards a familiar figure. “Hyung! A stranger talked to me!!!” The kid said as he hid behind his hyung.

His hyung turned out to be the thief. “It’s okay, kid. That stranger is a friend of mine.”

Because you were supposedly friends with him, you were invited to his house which turned out to be an orphanage. The nuns who were running it were all kind to you. They kept on praising the thief. How he was a good guy. How he helped the orphanage a lot. How he showered gifts to the orphans despite being an orphan himself. That’s when you thought that the thief was a nice guy after all.

“The nuns will be disheartened if they knew the truth.” You said when it was only the two of you in the privacy of the thief’s room.

“I know but having a lot of part time jobs. No matter how decent those jobs are. It only pays a little amount of money. It’s not enough to help the orphanage. That’s why I resorted to stealing.” The thief explained. In a way, you thought he was Robin Hood.

“But why did you throw my necklace to the river? You could have earned a lot of money if you sold it instead.” If it’s just all about money, then it wouldn’t make sense that he threw my necklace away.

“Because I want you to forget about him.” The thief moved closer to you and caressed your cheek like what he did during that night except his hands were free from gloves now. As his lips landed on yours, you instantly figured out that he likes you. As you kiss back, you realize that you like him too. On what basis? Nothing. You don’t need a reason to like or love someone.

THE END
