Friendship's Inheritence

A greeting said in monotone,

A wandering thought when you're alone,

Are all you give me now.

Once, of course, there was the warmth,

And a smile like the sun.

But distance and time cool even the stars,

And the knot is coming undone.

So I have your letters in hand,

Intangibles once solid, turned to sand,

Clutching at friendship's inheritence.
