Serpiente

I knew what it was the second I heard the hair-raising hiss of something that nobody knew to my world should have to face so soon. It slithered from the top of a tall tree, sending my heart racing with fear. A snake. Imagine the largest snake that you have ever seen, double it in size, and that just might remotely compare to the size of this monster.

Two crooked fangs sat on the sides of  its wide mouth, and one, small red eye sat on the top of its head. Of all the creatures that you could find in this forest, this was definitely one of the most tricky. The slightest movement, and it would be studying you with fiery intensity, deciding if it should attack before you could even blink. It coiled around us, it's smooth scales brushing against me.

Tyler seemed terrified, like nothing I have ever seen before. The petrified fear seemed to spread across him, to the point where he dropped to the ground. The serpent's  head cocked to the side before I could even take in the situation. It's tongue flickered out of its wide mouth, staring at him. I knew that it's eye was almost useless to it, and it really just uses its tongue to "feel" things.  I learned this when I last encountered a serpiente, and I was dumb enough to wave a hand over it's eye, to receive no response. It did flick its tongue at me though, so that's when I learned a trick for these things.

It's head was turned so this was my only chance. I wriggled my toe underneath a copper stick from one of the metal trees, and flicked it up into my hand. I locked eyes with Tyler, crossing my fingers that he would get the message. I held up the stick, pointed at it, the serpent, then my tongue. He winked, so I tossed the stick at him, causing it to flick its tongue at the sudden movement. When this happened, he held the stick up at its tongue, his hand shaking just enough for me to notice. This way, the serpent just might think that it had just ran into a tree, by us taking advantage of its poor eyesight. The serpent uncoiled, and slithered away.

Everyone let out the cold breath that we had been holding while in the presence of the monster. "I really need to explain a lot... But we are almost to my place, so just hold on for now. I promise that everything that's happening now will make some kind of sense when I have the time to explain it."
