Hello Wattpadders!! So I know many of you will be disappointed, but I am going to have to temporarily put 'A Duke and A Damsel' on hold to start this new project for the So You Think You Can Write Wattpad/Harlequin contest. It have always dreamed of being published by Harlequin, so I will regret it forever if I don't take advantage of this opportunity. I hope that you all will support me in this endeavour and read this even though it's in the contemporary romance genre.
Anyway, I hope that you all enjoy this new story. I am actually really, really excited to be writing this. Please encourage your friends and other Wattpadders to read and vote if you like it! I need all the help I can get with this.
Just a few notes. Ambar is pronounced like the words um and brr put together, so something like umber, the color. And Kal is pronounced like Kal Penn.
This chapter is dedicated to sidc93, monkey9192, and sbp999 for spending hours and hours, days and days, trying to figure out the first chapter, plot holes, editing, etc. Thank you guys :)
As always, any form of feedback is greatly appreciated. I love reading all your comments :)
Leaping Into Love
Chapter 1
-----
Ambar unfolded the crumpled list in her hand for what seemed like the hundredth time that day and stared blankly at it, wondering if she'd made the right decision. Regardless, it was too late to change her mind now. She was already more than thirty-thousand feet in the air, and there was no turning back. Plus, it was about time she did something out of the ordinary. She could do this. She had to do this.
Leaning back in her seat, she closed her eyes and thought back to that fateful conversation with her parents less than a week ago.
“Ambar!” Sheila called out. “Come into the living room for a moment. Your father and I want to talk to you.
Ambar walked into the living room and sprawled on the couch, looking at her parents impatiently. They rarely spoke to her together, unless it was at mealtimes, so whatever they had to tell her couldn't be good. Her mother and father exchanged a glance.
“Ambar, honey, you have to understand that what we're about to tell you isn't easy,” her mother began.
Ambar raised her eyebrow quizzically. Her mother shot another look at her father.
“Ambar, your mother and I love you very much, but—”
“NO.” Ambar cut in, quickly sitting up properly, a horrible thought occurring to her. “Please don't tell me you're getting divorced. You've been married for over twenty-five years. You can't get divorced now! That would be utterly ridiculous! Whatever the problem is, we can work it out together. There's always couples counseling. Have you looked into that at all? How could you not tell me you were having problems?”
Her parents looked at each other incredulously. She heaved a sigh of relief.
“Oh, so that wasn't it. Sorry. Please go on.”
“Ambar, sweetheart,” her father paused and cleared his throat. “I know this may seem sudden to you, and we probably should have told you a long time ago. We wish we didn't have to just spring it on you like this, but we no longer have a choice. We wanted to tell you so many times before, but we felt that you were too young to know.”
“Are you about to tell me I'm adopted or something? Because I also would have appreciated if you hadn't waited twenty-three years to tell me that.”
