"This year will be different, it has to be," I said to my best friend, Aria.

"Mia, you know we have been one of the nerds since grade school," she replied.

"And I'm tired of being the schools nerd. It's senior year, something has to change." She shook her head and sighed.

"Let's focus on our life's plan. Graduating top in our class and getting into Harvard. Then we become great business people and open up our own company together."

"I'm not so sure if I want that life's plan anymore." She gave me a wide eyed look.

"You are nuts. We've been planning this out for years. Once you've came to your senses, call me," she said before walking away to our other friends. Great, I have to face the first day alone.

"Let's go up to that girl," someone said behind me. I just kept walking because I knew no one would want to talk to me. Not even Aria right now.

A girl with green eyes and rainbow dyed hair came up to me, dragging along a girl with green eyes and brown hair with carmel highlights.

"Hey, I'm Rachel. You look like an awesome person, so hello," the girl with rainbow hair said.

"Hey," I said sceptical.

"You'll get used to her craziness. I'm Angela," the brunette said.

"I'm Mia, nice to meet you."

"We just moved here from Florida," Angela said.

"Are you two twins?"

"No. I'm adopted. Rachel's mom and my mom were best friends before my mother died. My dad is in prison for life so Rachel's mom adopted me," Angela explained.

"Sorry to hear that. Well, I better-" I started.

"Are you a senior too?" Rachel interrupted me.

"Yeah."

"Well, let's get this show on the road," Rachel said, grabbing my arm. She pulled me inside the school while Angela followed us.

Rachel pulled me into the office. She looked straight at the secretary, expectantly.

"How can I help you?" The secretary asked.

"I need schedules for Angela Poorman and Rachel Scott," Rachel said. The secretary got up and went to a pile of papers. She shuffled through them then grabbed two papers.

"Here you go. Have good day," she said while handing Rachel the papers. We turned to go.

"Oh, and Mia," I turned around when she said my name,"stay out of trouble."

"I don't plan on it," I said, smirking.

"What did she mean?" Angela asked, after we left the office.

"I've gotten in a few fights before. Some people have made fun of me and threatened me so I may have given them a black eye."

"But you look like a smart girl, no offense," Rachel said.

"None taken. And just because I'm smart, doesn't mean I can't kick some butt." There's only one person I'm afraid of in this school. Let's forget about that for now.

"Nice," Rachel said, giving me a high five.

"Thanks. So schedules, what do you guys have?" We compared schedules and I found out I have four classes with Angela and five with Rachel. We all have homeroom together.

"Biology first hour. Great," Rachel said.

"It's better than History," Angela commented.

"It's not that bad. Plus, I have Biology with you, Rachel and the History teacher is not that bad," I said.

"You have a positive outlook on life. And I'm positive that the outlook will probably fail," Rachel said.

"And I'm positive that I'll change your attitude," I said back. Angela chuckled and Rachel rolled her eyes.

"I would introduce you to my other friends, but I got in an argument with one," I said changing the subject.

"The girl we saw you with before we ran up to you?" Angela asked.

"Yeah."

"She looks like a snob," Rachel said.

"Rachel," Angela gasped. I just laughed.

"She's right. We were arguing about her telling me how my life was going to go. I'm tired of her but then I was also desperate for friends." I looked down at the floor.

"Who are these slobs?" Aria asked. She had stopped in front of my locker.

"They aren't slobs and they're my friends, Angela and Rachel." Angela gave a small wave, obviously trying to be polite, even though I could tell she wanted to slap Aria. Rachel gave Aria a death glare.

"I thought I was your friend," Aria said.

"You've never treated me like one."

"Fine then. I'm about to change you life, for the worst."

"You don't scare me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get to class." When she wouldn't move, I shoved her out of the way.

"Watch your back, all of you," Aria said. Then she stormed off, probably to go vent to my other friends.

"That was great," Rachel said.

"Yeah, friend," Angela said. I smiled then turned to grab my Biology book and Health book, along with two notebooks.

"Mia, are you ok?" Angela asked.

"I'm fine. Let's get to homeroom." Homeroom. Our homeroom teacher doesn't care what we do. So that means a bunch of kids laughing and playing pranks on each other. Super loud and crazy. It actually doesn't bother me.

"Man it's loud," Angela said.

"Yeah, our homeroom teacher doesn't care about what we do. It's a wake up call," I explained.

"This class is full of hot guys," Rachel said. Rachel and I laughed while Angela rolled her eyes.

"So, we've told a lot about ourselves, now it's your turn," Angela said.

"Alright. Um.... I have two older brothers, one in college and one out of college. The one out of college is married. My mom died when I was twelve. I have a dog and I love to sing." There's a lot more to my backstory but I don't trust them enough, yet.

"Nice. I'm into art," Angela said.

"And I write a bunch," Rachel said.

"Awesome." The class shuffled out as the first bell rang.

"First day and two awesome friends. Bye Angela, see you later," I said as we passed the History room.

"Bye," she said.

"Ok, the Biology teacher is such a bore but most of the time he's asleep. Pretty much like homeroom but you have to be quiet and there's a little work, but not much," I said to Rachel. She nodded as we stepped into the classroom, almost late.

"Good morning class. I made you a chart of rules but I need to take attendance." Boring. But this first day is pretty awesome. I hope it gets better.
