*school bell rings* Last day of high school. The most depressing fucking day of the year, yet the best. This was the day everyone says goodbye to their closest friends and leave the school they've been going to for the last four years. But then again. College. The "time of our lives". They're going to have so much freedom, it's overwhelming.
Holli walks to her car, starts the engine, and drives to her apartment. Once she gets there, she moves pasta, cleans herself up and gets in bed. Days here were lonely. She was emancipated when she was 16. Her parents were high all the time, and they were low-key, a kids nightmare. She got out the first chance she got and sewed her dad. Pierson Hoffman was sentenced 20 years in prison for child abuse. Holli used that money to save up for college and got an apartment.
Holli went to her room and changed into her sleeping shorts and a tank. Right as she was about to turn her light off, her doorbell rang. She got up annoyed and walked over to her door, and opened it. What was sitting at her doorstep nearly made her cry. It was a baby. A hungry, abandoned baby. She looked around for its owner. No one.
Holli picks the baby up, wrapped in a blanket, and brought it inside. She couldn't take this baby to the police yet. This baby needs love, warmth, and someone to cuddle for one night. Holli would take the baby to the police in the morning. She heads to the kitchen, and looks around. "Let's see. I don't have any bottles, I'm sorry." She says to the baby. "But, I do have a water bottle which I can put some milk in." She knows from her babysitting jobs, that babies like their milk warm, so she pours some milk and pops it in to the microwave, for 30 seconds. Once the bottle is done heating up, she takes the bottle and the baby over to her bedroom. "I know this isn't formula or anything like that, but this'll have to do for one night." After the baby was done with the bottle, Holli turns the baby over to search for any bruises, scratches, etc.
When she unwraps the baby, she notices that is was a girl. Who would abandon this big blue eyed baby girl? She also had a full head of hair, absolutely gorgeous. How was Holli going to give this baby away. After about 10 minutes of swaying and back rubbing, the baby fell asleep.
Once morning came, Holli called the police, because she couldn't drive over to the station due to not having a car seat. After about 5 minutes, the police were at her apartment. "Come in."
"Hello Holli. You called about a baby?"
"Yes, she's in my room sleeping."
"Ok, we have a few questions to ask you." Holli nods.
"What time last night did the baby show up at your doorstep?" The big officer asks.
"Around 9:45."
"Ok, also, did you see who it was?" Holli shakes her head.
"And, you said she. It's a girl?" The other police asks.
"Yes, I checked it for bruises and to see if she was hurt. She wasn't," says Holli.
"Good, good. Ok, why don't you get the baby and come with us. We have a car seat."
"Ok." Holli walks to her room, picks the baby up, and walks to her door. The police escort her over to their car. Holli puts the baby in the car seat, they've provided and buckles her up. Again, after about 5 minutes, they arrive at the station.
The police whispers to a guy standing at the entrance with a suit on. "Hi. You must be Holli," says the guy.
"Yes." Holli says, and shakes the mans hand. He takes her over to an office. "Sit here please." He says while pointing to an empty chair.
"So, here are our options. Since the baby showed up at your doorstep, you've been "storked." This means that the baby is legally yours now." Holli stares, she had no idea. "But, there's also adoption. You can put her up for adoption, or you can keep her. The station would give you a couple hundred dollars to get you going and to buy clothes, food, other stuff to care for the baby." Holli looks at the baby girl, this beautiful baby was hers.
"So Holli, what's it going to be?" Holli knew that the responsible decision was adoption, but how could she make this baby, that's already been through so much, go into the system. Then again, she couldn't raise a baby, she doesn't have the money, or time. She'd have to take a break from college. Holli knew what she had to do. "I've decided, that um, I-I'm going to keep it." The guy smiles. "That's a really good thing of you to do." Holli smiles back. "I can make this work." So I'm going to need you to fill out this packet and return it tomorrow. When you return, with the packet, then we will give you $500 to go buy stuff to care for your daughter. "Daughter". Holli moved the sound of that. She was a mom. This would change her life forever. Nothing would ever be the same. Things would be better. The guy, now Holli knows his name, Ben, gave her the packet. Ben walked her out and the police drove her pack to her house. When they got there, the police officers gave her the car seat in appreciation of doing the right thing. Well, I guess this is a start.
