JACOB HATED the hospital. He despised staring at the bleak, chipped, white walls all day, waiting for his sister to revive. Penelope hadn't woken up since the day of the car crash. A part of Jacob didn't want his sister to ever open her eyes again because he wished to save her from the traumatic experience of discovering her mother died next to her, and her father was disabled from his diabetes. He couldn't imagine what Penny would do when she found out her sisters moved away, haunted by flooding memories of their beloved mother. Maybe it was better for his sister to remain asleep, peaceful under the darkness.
No one expected Penny to wake up. Billy was struggling with paying her medical bills, and he confessed to Jacob that he might have to cut her off soon. The teenager protested, of course, but there wasn't anything he could do. He just sat in the white chair, watching her heartbeat with devastation in his own. A loud skidding sound filled the room when Jacob moved backwards, startled when Penelope's hand twitched. Her heart monitor began to beep like crazy, and she was moving all around, her head going in different directions. Jacob yelled for the doctor to come in and Carlisle Cullen entered, demanding Jacob wait outside.
White. All Penelope saw was the milky color. Whether it was the ceiling or her doctor's pale skin, she couldn't spot any other hue. There were too many words being said. Her ears felt clogged and her muscles were achingly tense. She attempted to move her hand, but groaned when pain filled her body. When she looked down at her shirt, she was no longer a ten year old girl. She gasped at the sight and Carlisle spoke her name, hoping she would be able to respond. She glared at the man with hatred in her eyes, uncomfortable with her unknown surroundings.
"Where's my family?"
