Emotionally hardened. That’s how I feel. My parents finally made the decision to ship me off to boarding school. I guess they had enough of my wild nights out. They had enough of getting calls from the neighbors, from the police.

The school’s called Welham’s Preparatory School. It’s supposed to be a strict place where they promise to whip students into shape. I was looking at their website earlier this afternoon, just to find out a bit about it before I left, but it was boring school information with boring pictures of other kids in class. So not for me. But I have little choice. It’s either that or go live with my aunt, and NO ONE wants to live with her. She’s a loon.

So now here I am, my bags packed, at the airport, waiting for my flight to be called. My parents dropped me off and hugged me goodbye. Frankly, I think they’re glad to be rid of me. I know I would be.

It sucks to start your junior year at a completely unknown place though. Being 17 means you already have an established friend group, and now I have to start over. Honestly, I don’t really care. I don’t really grow attached to things.

Suddenly my flight is called,

“All passengers boarding flight A143 to Manchester, please proceed to the boarding area.”

I sigh and pick up my duffel and trudge to the gate. The lady checks my documents and hands them back, a big plastic smile on her face. That’s how they do it here in Miami. I fake smile back and walk through the terminal.

In the flight, I notice I’m seated next to an attractive brown haired boy with blue eyes. Well, at least there’s some plus points.

He looks up and catches me staring, and I quickly look away.

“Hello. Can I help you?” he asks politely.

“Erm, no thank you,” I smile.

He nods.

“Damn, I was hoping to carry on this conversation.”

I stare at him. Is this attractive boy flirting with me? Not that it was a surprise. I’m used to it. I mean, I won’t deny it, I’m attractive, just not that much. I have layered black hair, and hazel eyes, and I seem to have a permanent tan. I’m tall and slim, though I lack curves.

Focusing my attention back to him, I state,

“Well in that case, you could tell me your name.”

“Louis Tomlinson. You?”

He has an adorable Brit accent.

“Alaska Parks.”

“Nice to meet you Alaska. Why are you headed to Manchester?”

“Parents. They shipped me off to boarding school, so that’s where I’m going.”

“I already go there. I’m a senior. Trust me, it isn’t that bad.”

“I guess we’ll be seeing each other around a lot then.”

“That would be nice.”

The school was looking better and better.
