"Thank you so much! Have a wonderful afternoon!"
After the little bell chimed signaling the closing door, Aubrey Handler wiped her hands on her apron and flipped the 'Open' sign over to 'Closed.'
"I've got to find another job." she thought to herself. 8 years of managing Sweet Delight's Bakery... it was time for a change. Aubrey wanted to finally prove herself and everything she was capable of. The fierce, competitive, dedicated, hardworking bakery owner needed a change of scenery.
As she finished making herself a latte, she sat down at a table and peered out the window at the bustling streets of New York City amidst the artificial lights. As always, the huge grey glass building captured Aubrey's attention.
The Reynolds Corporation was an up-and-coming financial advisor company, easily becoming the best in New York. Their boss, Brent Reynolds, the a-typical COO, soon to be CEO, with the devilishly charming looks and no shortage of female attention. Why would there be? His build and physical appearance left a lot to be desired, and it was obvious why he was so popular in the ladies department- but that's not why Aubrey researched the company; and that's definitely not the reason she decided that the recent opening of a PA position was just the change of scenery she needed. I mean, if she was being honest with herself, it wouldn't be so bad being the Personal Assistant to the mysterious man on the cover of GQ and Men's Health, who never sticks with one woman.
Aside from the- ehem- perks of working at the Reynolds Corporation for pure pleasure if you were, Aubrey had a purpose, too. Not only was a change of scenery wanted, but a change of attitude and perception was greatly needed. Aubrey was never taken seriously. She was always the "sweet little girl who owned that quaint, nice bakery on 22nd street." Enough was enough! She had a Finance and Business degree complete with a diploma with her name on it from Princeton goddamnit! She no longer wanted to be seen as a small whisper, she wanted to become a force to be reckoned with.
As she finished her latte, her inner thoughts convinced her of her decision. Tomorrow, she would call and apply at the big opportunistic building across the street from her small, familiar surrounding. She wouldn't be forgetting Sweet Delights Bakery, but it needed to learn how to survive without one Aubrey Handler.
